a stronghold of the Reformed Church.

The Presbyterian Church (USA) is a part of the family of

Reformed churches found all over the world. Reformed churches have their beginning in the Protestant

Reformation of 16th century Europe. Martin Luther is credited

with starting the Reformation movement that swept Germany

and quickly spread to other European countries. Luther's followers

were called "Lutherans" because of their adherence

to his popular

teachings about the Bible and Christian faith. Soon other

reformers

in various European countries picked up on new Reformation

doctrines

and began refining them as always happens during a fresh new

wave of thought. Most notably among these new reformers was a

Frenchman by the name of John Calvin who was working in Geneva,

Switzerland at the time. His ideas were based on Luther's, but he

modified them and wrote them in a book entitled "The Institutes of

the Christian Religion". In order to distinguish his movement from

the "Lutheran" movement, the name "Reformed" was given to

Calvin's part of the Reformation teaching. Later on, a young

Scotsman named John Knox studied under Calvin and took the

Reformed faith back to Scotland with him. When early settlers came

from Scotland to America, they brought their faith with them. The

Presbyterian Church (USA) is descended in large part fromScottish

Presbyterianism. Some of our major beliefs include: The

Sovereignty

of God, the Lordship of Jesus Christ and the presence of the

Holy Spirit to believers. We affirm that we are called into the service

of Christ's church to proclaim the gospel ("good news") of

salvation to all who will receive Christ as Lord and Savior. We accept the Bible as God's word and believe that it contains all

that is needful for Christian faith and practice. We take part in the

common life of the church by meeting together for Worship, Prayer

and study. We enjoy a warm fellowship among our church family

and we reach out to others in acts of service and compassion. We

believe in living responsibly in the world and exercising faithful

stewardship over all that God has given us. Presbyterians recognize

two Sacraments -- Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Each particular

church is governed by a board of Elders who have oversight of the

church and it's mission. We have periodic classes for those who

wish to inquire further into what it means to be a Presbyterian. We invite you to contact us for

further information about our church.

A little Sunday funday Presbyterian fact:

Pastor A.L. "Lacey" McDuffie holds the title for the longest pastorate in the history of our church. Rev. McDuffie faithfully served this congregation from 1943 to 1958, guiding the church through many important years. In fact, his impact on the community was so great that in 1958 the Mayor of Chipley officially proclaimed a day in his honor-"Lacey McDuffie Day." Rev. McDuffie was also pastor during a major milestone in our church's story: the construction and completion of our current sanctuary. Thanks to his leadership, the congregation worshipped together in the beautiful space we still call home today!

We would love for you to call this place home. Our service begins at 11am, come join us!

Our church underwent an upgrade this week, made possible through the generosity of a couple of members and the donation of a substantial amount of rocks by TCB ROCK DIRT & LANDSCAPING MATERIALS.

The project commenced with the Langworthy guys clearing out the old pine straw beds and preparing them for the new rocks. Subsequently, the Buildings and Grounds team spread four tons of rocks, thereby completing the Phase II Drainage Project. This new design complements the Phase I drainage project, which was completed by Clark's 850 Landworks a couple of weeks ago.

We have one more Drainage Project in the design phase. For those who have donated to our Special Projects Fund, thank you!

We invite you to join us this Sunday at 11am to witness the results of our landscaping and drainage efforts.

Legend has it that during the construction of our current sanctuary, a dime was placed behind the cross above the front doors. The reason? To make sure the church would always have at least ten cents to its name! Whether fact or folklore, it's a fun reminder that sometimes even the smallest things can carry a big story. And if the legend is true, you could say our church has been financially secure—by at least a dime—ever since!

Our service stats at 11am, come join us!

Sunday funday facts!

In the earliest days of our congregation, 1896-1904, Sunday worship didn't take place in a Presbyterian building at all! Instead, the church membership gathered in the Methodist & Baptist congregation's buildings.

That changed on May 15, 1904, when the congregation finally moved into its first church building under the leadership of Rev. A.C. Dolphy. The celebration grew sweeter as four new members joined the church that day: Mr. and Mrs. Sion Alford, Mr. John B. Glen, and Mr. John D. Campbell.

Stay tuned for more!
