Grieving the election results?
The loss of a dream is worthy of grief. Someone texted me today and asked me to prepare a prayer for those who are in emotional pain. Please know that I am a registered Independent and a believer of the Word and the Sovereignty of God. I prayed and here is how I believe God would have grievers to pray:
=========
A Prayer to Accept the Presidential Election Results
Sovereign Father,
You have spoken regarding the U.S. presidential election. Those of us who worked, prayed, and gave with the hope of a different outcome call upon you now to heal us of our disappointment, our frustration, and even our anger.
Forgive us for questioning your sovereign plan and purpose simply because we do not understand it.
Give us the grace to accept your word and to declare it to others as we speak of the election results. Specifically, we recite:
Daniel 4:32 NKJV: “…the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.”
Romans 13:1 (NLT): “Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God.”
Father, in obedience to your word (1 Timothy 2:1-4), I will start immediately to pray for all in authority at every level of our government. I pray for peaceful transitions of power. I pray against hatred, vitriol, and foreign interference that come to destroy our democracy and our stability as a nation. I pray that our leaders will seek your face and surround themselves with advisors who will do the same. Nothing and nobody is beyond your influence.
I receive your inner peace now, Father, as I let go of all negative emotions regarding the election results.
I pledge allegiance to YOUR word and the godly behavior which you require. By your Grace, I will be an instrument of Unity and not of Division.
In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
