Patient in affliction. It's easy to say don't be angry when you're hit, don't be sad when you fail, don't be afraid when you're uncertain, but the real question is how?
What is it to be joyful in our hope? Is hope not inherently optimistic? And what is Joy if not a blanket of optimism?
"...Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength" Nehemiah 8:10
Joy is long-lasting. Happiness is an external and fleeting emotion. Joy, like a tree, grows roots deeper in your life with time. Habits of gratitude and a fostering of peace create a steady contentment that remains through hard times. Joy is Strength. Joy is a skill we must practice.
Hope is looking forward in faith that things will improve. When we have joy in our hope, we are asking for that contentment, that peace, to remain in our looking forward.
With each part of this verse, to have Joy as we Hope, to be patient in hard times, and to be steadfast and reliant on our prayer, are in combination the answer to the question patience. Pray, be reflective, notice where you are. Have gratitude and hope; in them you'll find contentment. And with these, we will be patient in affliction.

In our relationships, in our homes, in our communities, churches, cities, and to our country- we are called to be Salt and Light.

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden."
Matthew 5:13-14

We are made to further one another in relationship with the Father. That purpose can't be hidden by anything- like light on the hill, the Father's intention is written in our cells. "But if the salt loses its saltiness..." if we do not practice our faith as we speak it, then what fruit will we see? Faith without works is dead.

Covenant invites you to join us this Sunday for service; not as an obligation to religious practice, but as a celebration, continual renewal, and the work of your faith.
We can't wait to have you with us!

“God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world, we are like Jesus. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear."
1 john 4:16-17 & 19

There is no greater love story than that of the Father's for us. Have a wonderful Valentines Day ❤

Holidays. Celebrations. Traditions. Our culture and our expectations can often leave love feeling defined by moments when we go out of our way to do something special. Valentine's Day is almost here, but we've all seen how love can be equated with things and plans if left unchecked.
This is a verse from Proverbs, a chapter of wisdom on the faithfulness that produces deeper love. Gifts are lovely. Celebrations are beautiful. A friend who will stand by you in the face of difficulty, longsuffering, in the stretches of mundane, in the moments when it's not convenient- that is loving like Christ. The love we share is not defined by the holiday. The holiday is defined by the relationship and the love that's growing within it.

This story repeats in three of the gospels. We've all likely heard a sermon or two on it before. Often, when we hear this story, our take away involves the comfort of what God will do for us: protect us from the storms. Ensure that we safely make it to where we're going. But there is a greater intention behind this story.

Jesus is demonstrating God's character in this moment. We are learning the nature of His authority- which is over and above all things, including the natural world, and yes, our individual circumstances.
This is a story we can take comfort from, not because bad things never happen, but because Jesus is laying in the boat beside us, always, with authority over everything.

Are there spaces in your life where you've given into fear and panic, forgetting Jesus is beside us resting in His perfect peace? The world is loud and messy- it's easy to be consumed by it. But let Him hold the power over your anxiousness and uncertainty. Let Him be the authority over what effects you in the storms of your everyday. Because He's the only one that should.
