It's Pastor Appreciation Month! Join us in celebrating our Pastoral Staff.

Today we're recognizing one of our Associate Pastors, Matt Steinbrook! Here are some fun facts about Pastor Matt:

Q: What was your first job?
A: I was a busboy at Bob Evans.

Q: If you had “walk-up” music before preaching, what would your song choice be?
A: The Man Comes Around by Johnny Cash

Q: Where is your happy place?
A: It's a toss-up between Yosemite National Park and Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Q: If you did not work in ministry, what field would you pursue?
A: I’d either be a guide or outfitter in the mountains or a surf instructor with a shop to support either adventure.

Q: What do you dislike that everyone else seems to like?
A: Any kind of game. I know, I know, sounds like no fun, but I can’t stand games of any kind.

Q: How can we pray for you?
A: My prayer is that I serve and lead intentionally and effectively; first and foremost, in my family. I pray that my service and leadership in ministry be a result of what is taking place in my own life and home.

Today we're recognizing our Youth Pastor, Timmy Rodriguez! Here are some fun facts about Pastor Timmy:

Q: What was your first job?
A: My first official job ever was as an English teacher in Honduras, but my first job here in the US was at Chick-Fil-A.

Q: Why did you pick this profession?
A: I wouldn't say I picked this profession, but God called me to it and I gladly accepted it because I am passionate about working with teens! I am passionate about talking with people and I am passionate about worship!

Q: What is one fact few people know about you?
A: When I was about 5 or 6, my dad almost unintentionally killed me with a car. (You'll have to ask me for the full story if you want to know)

Q: Where is your happy place?
A: My happy place is with my family, blood related and not blood related, sitting, eating, talking, playing with them. And hosting people, cooking for them and providing a comfortable and safe place for them.

Q: Do you collect anything?
A: My wife would tell you I collect Nerf guns (they're really for Judah), clearance items (gotta love a good deal) and anything from Sam's Club. I love Sam's Club!

Q: Which Bible character do you think would be the most interesting dinner guest?
A: I would love to sit down for dinner with King David.

Q: How can we pray for you?
A: That I can be who my wife and son need me to be for them. For wisdom to be there for the youth, leaders, and volunteers of the ministries that I lead and serve in.

Q: If you did not work in ministry, what field would you pursue?
A: I used to run an in-home daycare, and I would 100% go back to that!

Q: Where is your happy place?
A: Emerald Isle, NC

Q: What do you dislike that everyone else seems to like?
A: Pizza

Q: Who is your hero?
A: My mom.

Q: What skill would you most like to learn?
A: To speak Spanish.

Q: How can we pray for you?
A: That God would continue to make His desires and will for both the Children's Ministry and for my life clear, and that He would give me the discernment, patience, and boldness to walk in that.

It's Pastor Appreciation Month! Join us in celebrating our Pastoral Staff.

Today we're recognizing our Pastors of Brookside en Español, Juan Carlos and Elva Arias! Here are some fun facts about them:

Q: If you weren't working in ministry, what field would you choose to work in?
A: Both of us would enjoy working in university education and teaching.

Q: What is your happy place?
A: Our happy place would be watching the sunrise while having some maté together, sitting beside a small campfire and enjoying the beautiful scenery in the mountains. Our favorite season is fall, so that makes it even more special.

Q: What is your most treasured possession?
A: Our most treasured possession is our family. We see our family as a team, and we work together and support one another as we move forward.

Q: Do you collect anything?
A: Yes! We collect maté cups and thermoses, especially Stanley thermoses. Juan Carlos has a special collection of different models and colors. If you ever visit us, that will probably be the first thing he shows you! 😄

Q: What is the funniest thing that has ever happened during a sermon?
A: One time, I was invited to preach in a rural farming community. It was one of my first sermons, and the sound equipment was very old. When they handed me the microphone, I didn’t realize there was a problem with it. As soon as I turned it on, I got an electric shock and couldn’t let go of the microphone!
The people watching me started to think something else was happening to me. It was definitely a funny and unforgettable moment, and one of the stories I still remember from my early days of preaching. Thank God I’m still alive! 😄

Q: How can we pray for you?
A: Please pray that God would guide us through the entire documentation process for our family, and that He would continue to provide for us and establish the ministry He has entrusted to us.
