Throwback Thursday :
This photo takes us back to a 2003 Children's Moment. Here, retired Pastor Tom Shifflet is sitting on the stage with some of our youngest church members, sharing a short object lesson connected to the day's sermon.

A lot has changed since 2003. Those children have grown up, and the way we do worship has changed too. But one thing hasn't changed: Tom continues to be a blessing to our congregation and to people of all ages.

We are grateful for the many years of ministry he has shared with First Christian Church—and for the ways his ministry continues even today.

“Should you not have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?”—Matthew 18:33

It's easy to want mercy when we need it. It's harder to extend mercy when someone else does.

Perhaps that's where grace becomes more than something we receive. Maybe that's where grace becomes something we practice.

This week’s Throwback Thursday takes us back to the ordination of the Rev. Katy Valentine, who served as Associate Minister at First Christian Church for five wonderful years.

Pictured here is Katy with her dad, who may—or may not—have been wearing the greatest ordination-day T-shirt ever:

“I never thought I'd grow up to be a super cool dad of a freakin' awesome pastor, but here I am killing it.”

😂

We are grateful for Katy's ministry and for the many people who have shared their gifts and their lives with our church through the years.

And yes... Dad was definitely killing it. ❤️

Sometimes the hardest part of faith isn't believing in God. Sometimes it's figuring out how to live with one another.

Jesus said:

“Where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
—Matthew 18:20

That means Christ is present not only when we agree, but also when relationships are difficult, when misunderstandings happen, and when we need to find a way forward together.

This week, may we remember that God's hope for us is not simply to be right—but to be restored.

Hello everybody! I'm so sorry to tell you that all of a sudden Facebook is not letting us post anything that is video related. Hopefully we can get this solved this week. It's frustrating because I posted a video already this morning, and now everything doesn't work.

Here's a photo from 2011 that feels especially appropriate this week.

Two of our college-age folks working side-by-side with two of our longtime members, painting parking stripes in the church parking lot.

We just had the parking lot striped again last week, and it reminded me of something I love about our church: people of different generations stepping up together to get things done.

That's part of what being church looks like.

Young and old. Newcomers and longtime members. Different generations, different gifts, different experiences—working side-by-side to care for the place and the people God has entrusted to us.

Eleven years later, we're still doing it.

And that's a pretty good picture of the kind of church we want to be.
