Let No Man Judge You
“Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days. Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.”
Colossians 2:16-17
“Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.”
Colossians 2:16-17 NIV
I have found social media to be a place where bad theology abounds. The things that people hold on to so dearly, and will fight to the death to defend, things which are not sound according to the word of God. Things which are not according to the knowledge of Christ. Human traditions coupled with the religious laws found in the book of Leviticus, laws which find their fulfillment in the Lord Jesus.
I have been told that I am not eternally saved because I do not worship on the Sabbath. I have been told that I am not eternally secure because of the food I choose to eat. I have read diatribes about my worship being idolatrous because I pray to Jesus and not to Yeshua, because the name Jesus is blasphemous due to the fact that the letter “J” did not exist in Jesus' day. I have seen people wonder how it is that the disciples all had names that are common to western culture and not Hebrew names as they were from Israel, a middle-eastern nation. I have read articles that say I am lost because I use different translations of the Bible and not the KJV only in my studies and sermons. All these arguments are touted as proclaiming the true gospel and yet none of these arguments ever truly proclaim the gospel which is: Jesus is the Christ the Son of the living God and that no person will ever enter into the presence of the Father but by Him.
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”
John 14:6
I wonder how some people assume that their righteousness is found in what they observe, or in what they eat, or in what they do not observe or partake? No person can ever make himself or herself righteous in the sight of God according to their own merit. The only way to be righteous before God is to be in Christ.
“For in Him dwelleth all the fullness of the godhead bodily. An ye are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and power.”
Colossians 2:9-10
When I was new to the faith I liked to argue these issues, but I have come to realize that it is pointless. The apostle Paul has charged us not to fight and argue over these silly wives' tales, (1 Timothy 4:7) which is the sum total of all these arguments. These doctrines serve to distract people from the gospel of Jesus and so they are demonically inspired nonsense. Arguing over these things serve no purpose other than to waste a person's time and energy. What shall we say to these things? “These people are joined to their idols; let them alone.” Your time will be far better spent proclaiming the glory of the Lord Jesus which will result in more people coming to faith in Him.
You may give sound and practical advice to men and women whose sole purpose in life seems to be arguing over pet doctrines, and it is this: you will only come to understand what every true believer understands about the sufficiency of Christ when you are genuinely born again. This is exactly what Jesus said to Nicodemus. You cannot understand anything of a spiritual nature until you are born again. How is one born again? Lift up this question to Jesus in prayer and you will receive your answer.
The End.
