OBITUARY - Steven Dale Jones
Steven Dale Jones, 45, of Chickasha, passed from this life on Sunday, September 29, making music with close friends while on tour in Missouri. He devoted his life to the arts and advocated for local music programs everywhere he went.
A memorial service is scheduled at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at Trinity Baptist Church in Chickasha, Okla., where Steven was a member. Trinity is located at 428 E. Almar.
Steven was born in Oklahoma City, March 23, 1979. He grew up in Amber. Images of Steven as a toddler often included pots and pans and wooden spoons – his first drum set. Besides his family, he loved music, and nothing else captured his attention.
He used his platform for Type I Diabetes awareness and education. He encouraged others who wrestled with the disease to be encouraged and fearless in their life pursuits. “Every day you wake up, you are fighting to be victorious,” he often said. Steven routinely encouraged parents and children to “live without letting Diabetes define you.”
He graduated from Amber High School in 1998. Texting was his least-favorite form of communication, and if anyone missed getting a text from Steven, they really shouldn’t take offense.
Steven married the love of his life, Karen Blewett Jones, on April 26, 2003.
Steven understood his own need for a Savior. He took available opportunities to share the love of Christ with people around him who were curious or hurting or listening.
Survivors include his wife, Karen Jones, of the home; his children Mobi Jones and Katie Jones of Chickasha.; and his parents, Charles and Anita Maupin of Oklahoma City; and Dean and Aleta Jones of Bridge Creek. His siblings include Amy and Jason King of Chickasha; Ashley Grubbs of Sunray, Texas; Tara Harmon of Midwest City; Trisha Olmos of Oklahoma City; Charles “Buddy” Maupin of Oklahoma City; Maisie Maupin of Los Angeles, California. Nieces and nephews are Austin, Jaden, Alexis, Annabelle, Bryson, Logen, Andrew, Logan, Gentrie, Daxton and Maddie. Steven also had scores of aunts, uncles, and cousins who were all very dear to him.
He also considered his bandmates to be his brothers. The lineup changed many times over the years, but if you played music with him, you were family. Travis, Dante, Brad, Tyler, Cody, and countless others – he loved you.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dale and Wanda Loggins and Red and Alice Jones, aunts Jo Newton and Faye Jones, and uncles Randy Molder and Dan Jones.
Officiating at the service are Scott Guthrie and Randy Talley, pastors at Trinity.
In lieu of flowers, Steven would recommend you give to your local school music program, see a local music show, or support local music in your own way. Let Trinity know at [email protected].
