DFSS’s Cooling Centers will be open on Monday, August 31 through Wednesday, September 2, during standard operating hours.

📌 For a full list of citywide cooling center locations, visit 🔗 chi.gov/cooling
📌 For shelter placement, to find the nearest cooling center, and for well-being checks for seniors and unhoused neighbors, please contact 3-1-1.
📌 During hours of operation, residents can also find relief at Chicago Public Library locations, City Colleges of Chicago main campus locations and Chicago Park District fieldhouses located throughout the city.
📌 Also, the Chicago Police Department's 22 district stations are available 24 hours for relief from the heat, and to be connected with a shelter.

"And He arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm" (Mark 4:39). In the midst of all that we go through on a daily basis, remember you can still have peace in it. Although it may seem like you are in the worst storm of your life, our Lord is able to calm the fiercest storm. No matter what it is today, declare that you will have peace.

Remember to also, "let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him" (Colossians 3:15-17) .

Let peace be your guide today. Do not dwell on unnecessary things, comments or events. Stay focused and do not get sidetracked. "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).

"In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths" (Proverbs 3:6). Have you ever had to deal with an impulsive person? They just do things without thinking and make mess of everything. They are impulsive shoppers and trip takers. Everything they do is done in the moment without thinking about the consequences of those actions.

It is all done because it felt good at the time, and then they cry out to God asking why did He let this happen. The effects of the impulsive behavior is now manifesting. It was a matter of not saying Lord what shall I do. Ask the Lord for direction and watch Him lead you to your place of destiny. He is the best GPS you can have!!!

Let today be the last day you make an emotional decision. We have all done it at some time in our lives, but there are those who make every life-changing decision based on how they feel. Let us seek God and use wisdom as we make our moves. What you envision may very well be the next thing for you to do but not the time for you to do it. "To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1). So in this season of your life, let's master impulsive behavior and decisions. The repercussions are too great.

We often quote Forrest Gump who said "life is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you are gonna get". We say it like this is a very profound statement. Yet if we really ponder that statement, we will see that it is not accurate in its context. We may not know how much or how long we will get something, but we do know what we are going to get.

The Word of God is very clear on what we get in life. "Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Galatians 6:7-8). So we must examine what we are sowing in our lives.

Are we sowing to the flesh or to the spirit? We are to be mindful of what we put out because it is only God's mercy that has not allowed us to reap to the level of which we have sown negatively. It is the grace of God that has saved us from utter destruction from some things we have done wrong in our lives. It is not karma, it is the principle of sowing and reaping. We cannot live a life of holiness and righteousness constantly appeasing our flesh. We have to die to ourselves and be led by the Spirit of God.

When we are led by the Spirit of God, we are more mindful of the seeds we sow. Seeds reproduce after its own kind. The seeds should produce the fruit of the Spirit and we do not have to worry about reaping corruption. "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law (Galatians 5:22-23). So let us be careful how we sow because there will come a time to reap what has been planted. And the reaping tends to be greater and longer than the sowing.
