MAXWELL STREET BLUES REVIVAL® LIVE: Bringin' Shamrocks & Blues To The People On St. Patty's Day . . MSBR had a great week that brought us to WDCB/90.9FM, where we joined the festivities during Hambone's Blues Party. Anji, Lynne, Southside Stevie and I played live in the studio and promoted our St. Patrick's Day show Guy's Legends. Buddy is performing at the Oscars this weekend, so MSBR did a long set that included a tribute to Sinners (a medley of "Wang Dang Doodle" & "I Lied" from the movie soundtrack). Entire show got a fantastic response from the audience and was a truly memorable holiday event. Look forward to doing it again on 3/27 with Chicago Blues All-Stars. MAXWELL STREET BLUES REVIVAL® LIVE: Doin' It In-Person 's Blues Party . . Sending BIG LOVE to Mr. Scott Hammer, a life-long devotee of Chicago Blues music. He's 1500+ shows strong delivering Hambone's Blues Party (from the back of his Cadillac) on WDBC/90.9FM. MSBR was thrilled to accept his invite for a guest spot on the show to promote our upcoming show Buy's Legends. Per usual fashion, we spun it around the room, and when Diva Lynne Jordan stepped up to the mic, she absolutely wowed the audience with her acapella version of Nina Simone's "Be My Husband". MSBR has a deep trick-bag of material that covers a diverse array of the Blues Universe. We'll see you this weekend for another amazing night of great music and fun times at Legends . . CHICAGO SLIM® PRESENTS: Gonna' Be Another Great Week for Live Blues in Chicago . . Maxwell Street Blues Revival (MSRB) continues to generate a great buzz around the Windy City. Our Chicago Sun-Times feature is currently with the Editor and should be in print any day (we'll keep you posted). Because it's always about the music for MSBR . . We'll be joining Mr. Scott Hammer in the studio on Hambone's Blues Party (www.wdcb.org/program/hambones-blues-party) this Thursday night (03/12) . Have always had a great connection with Scott & WDCB-FM, as they remain tried & true supporters of Chicago's vibrant Blues scene. CHICAGO SLIM® PRESENTS: Maxwell Street Blues Revival Logo Reveal . . Have had nothing but positive feedback and incredible energy coming our way since the debut of MSBR. My head has been abuzz with ideas and possibilities with this new ensemble that features Anji Brooks, Lynne Jordan, South Side Stevie and yours truly. Over the years, I’ve undertaken a pedal-to-the-metal historic inventory of Maxwell Street culture and my favorite musical artists. Among them: Daddy Stovepipe, Maxwell Street Jimmy Davis, Big Walter Horton, Little Walter Jacobs, Etta James, Robert Nighthawk, Carrie Robinson, Koko Taylor, Jimmy Reed and Little Pat Rushing top my list. Their vibe was raw and style very immediate, as MSBR similarly strives to embody this spontaneity and urgency. Our musical Blues mission has recently been shared with design guru, Mr. Steve DeBeus, regarding a “simple request” to create yesterday & today imagery that embodies the essence of Maxwell Street past, blended with our ensemble’s modern evolution of that period in Chicago history . . and voila, here it is! Quite pleased with these MSRB logos and wanted to share with everybody for your viewing pleasure and feedback. MAXWELL STREET BLUES REVIVAL® LIVE: Chicago Slim & Friends Doing Their Maxwell Street Thang . . Maxwell Street may be a long-lost memory, but to many it was a place where we learned about Chicago Blues music. Every weekend, our senses were immersed with amazing sights (open-air flea market), sounds (myriad live blues, gospel and R&B ensembles) and smells (Jim's Polish and pork chops). So, it was a no-brainer that when we began doing "acoustic" Mojo sets Guy's Legends, we decided to showcase songs and stories from the Maxwell Street era (Blind Arvella Gray, Robert Nighthawk, Carrie Robinson & Little Pat Rushing are my benchmarks). Getting to channel that energy live is always a spiritual experience. Doing it with long-standing friends (Anji Brooks, Lynne Jordan and South Side Stevie) makes it all the more memorable. A huge THANK YOU to Buddy Guy, Mark Maddox and the entire Legends crew for their continued support. We'll be back for another amazing night of great music and fun times at Legends on Saturday, March 14 . . Stay tuned for more info!
