HOPE’S Kitchen
Lincoln Square @
St. Demetrios Chicago
First Tuesday of the Month

In Lincoln Square, a table waits, with open hearts & welcoming gates. The bread is warm, the coffee pours, & Christ is present through our doors.

The hungry come, the weary rest. Each one received as honored guest. For every soul we strive to see, as bearing God’s own dignity.

As St. Basil the Great taught long ago:
“The bread in your cupboard belongs to the hungry.”

So bread is broken, hope is shared, by faithful hands that have prepared.
In Lincoln Square, God’s love is shown, through acts of mercy humbly sown.

A meal, a smile, a listening ear. A reminder that Christ is near. And through this ministry, we prove the Gospel’s living work of love.

May all who gather, serve, & pray be blessed by God along the way. For in the neighbor that we greet, we find the Lord whom we seek to meet.

“For I was hungry and you gave Me food.”
(Matthew 25:35)

“Day of Champions” 2026

On the blessed Day of Pentecost (5.31) when the Holy Spirit came in power & grace, we gathered as one Family in Christ to celebrate our Champions & give thanks.

To our Jr. Olympians
You trained with dedication, competed with integrity, & showed that true victory is found not only in medals earned, but in perseverance, teamwork, & faith.

To our Coaches
You guided with wisdom, patience, & care. Helping young people grow not only as competitors, but as faithful servants of God & community.

To our Volunteers
You offered your time, talents, & loving service. Making this gathering possible through countless acts of kindness. Your work reflects the spirit of Pentecost itself. Many gifts, one purpose, united in love, united in Christ.

Today, as the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, people of many nations were brought together as one.
So too, through the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Chicago Jr. Olympics, we came together from many parishes & communities,
bound by faith, fellowship, & a shared commitment to excellence.

May the Holy Spirit continue to inspire our hearts, strengthen our bodies, guide our minds, & fill our lives with courage, humility, & joy.

On this Feast Day of Pentecost & “Day of Champions,” we give glory to God for every Athlete, Coach, Volunteer, & Family member. May His blessings be upon you all,
today & always.

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness.” Galatians 5:22

The Feast of Pentecost (celebrated 50 days after Pascha), commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, marking as many Theologians & Historians say “the birthday of the Church.”

• Descent of the Holy Spirit: The Feast fulfills Christ's promise to send the "Comforter". The Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles as tongues of fire, giving them the power to preach the Gospel globally.

• The Holy Trinity: Pentecost reveals the full nature of the Trinity: Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.

• Kneeling Prayers: A defining characteristic of the Pentecost Sunday Vespers service is the "Kneeling Prayers," which mark the reintroduction of kneeling in church—a posture of prayer that is suspended during the joyful Paschal season.

Saturday of Souls
Feast of Pentecost
Ψυχοσάββατο της Πεντηκοστής

Before the Feast of Pentecost’s holy fire, we stand in prayer, in love, & deep desire. On Ψυχοσάββατο, Των Ρουσαλιών we call,
Remembering the faithful, great & small.

The wheat is set, the kollyva prepared. A sign that death is not to be despaired. For buried grain, in darkness of the ground, arises once again in life profound.

So too the souls who sleep in Christ the Lord, are kept in mercy by His living Word. Not lost, not gone, but resting in His hand. Awaiting Resurrection’s Promised Land.

The Church remembers all who fell asleep, whose names in sacred memory we dearly keep. From generation unto generation, One living Body, one great Εκκλησία.

Των Ρουσαλιών, the tender holy day, where grief & hope together learn to pray. Every tear becomes a seed of light, until the dawn of the Resurrection ends the nite.

The candles glow, the incense rises slow, as love remembers those we used to know. In the prayers of all the faithful ones, the living stand with daughters, fathers, sons.

For Christ is Risen, even in the tomb. He fills with life, what once was sealed in gloom. He breaks the bonds of Hades’ iron gate & opens wide the path of endless blessed fate.

Before the Spirit comes in rushing flame, we call the souls of all in Jesus’ name. That all may be together, one in Him. Where His light is never fading, never dim.

So we remember, Των Ρουσαλιών we sing. With hope that only Jesus Christ can bring. For love in Christ is stronger than the grave & He alone is mighty still to save.

Αἰωνία ἡ μνήμη.
Memory eternal.

What a night it was at
St. Demetrios!

The music was playing, the DJ kept the energy high, & the room was filled with laughter, dancing, & the kind of Παρέα that makes a great night unforgettable.

Friends reunited, new friendships were formed, & before anyone knew it, hours had passed. The dance floor stayed busy, conversations filled every corner of the room, & the spirit of community was alive and well.

The greatest part of the evening wasn’t the music or the dancing, it was the people. Young Adults gathering together, sharing fellowship, enjoying each other’s company, & strengthening the bonds that make our Parish Family & the Chicago Scene so special.

Thank you to everyone who attended our Γλέντι & helped make the evening such a success. We look forward to the next opportunity to gather, celebrate, and enjoy the gift of community together. 🎶❤️🇬🇷
