A spiritually uplifting evening of prayer and reflection was held on Wednesday, October 14 at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Chicago.

Faithful gathered for the beautiful Salutations Service (Χαιρετισμοί) in honor of St. Demetrios the Great Martyr & Myrrh-Streamer. “Rejoice, O Martyr Demetrios!Χαίροις, Μάρτυς Δημήτριε!»

Following the service, worshippers were blessed to hear an inspiring presentation by Fr. Demetrios Kounavis of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana. His talk, entitled: Returning to Christ: “From Dervish to Martyr” - The Life & Martyrdom of St. Alexander of Thessaloniki, offered a profound reflection on the transformative power of faith, repentance, and devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ.

A meaningful reminder of the enduring witness of the Saints and the call to return to Christ with hearts renewed in faith, courage, and love. May the intercessions of St. Alexander of Thessaloniki strengthen and guide us all.

GOYA Mini-Retreat
(Grades 6–12)
Sunday October 11, 2026

Theme: IDEN+ITY
What it means to find our identity in Christ.

Our GOYA members were reminded that our identity is not defined by the world, but by God’s love and the new life we receive in Him.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.”
2 Corinthians 5:17

We are grateful for this opportunity to grow in faith, strengthen our friendships, and deepen our understanding of who we are in Christ.

IDEN+ITY
Rooted in Christ.
Growing in Faith.
United in Fellowship.
