In communities deeply divided by ethnic conflict, people are beginning to cross those divisions by meeting together, praying together, and choosing reconciliation.

In South Sudan and Ethiopia, 120 local leaders from different ethnic groups have been trained as Peace Ambassadors. Together, they’re carrying that work into their own communities and have already trained 600 more people.

These are religious and community leaders from groups that have experienced years of conflict, now working to rebuild trust and help their neighbors do the same.

On International Day of Rural Women, we're celebrating six women in Arada, Honduras, who have turned a shared idea into a new business called Pan Artesanal Araditas ("Araditas Artisan Bread").

Through CWRD partner COCEPRADIL, the women received training in business development, financial management, and marketing. Together, the six of them built an oven and began producing traditional cheese rosquillas, tostacas, and other baked goods.

For 40 families in Chusquin, Honduras, collecting water from streams and ponds used to be part of everyday life. Now, they can turn on a tap at home.

The community built miles of pipeline, carried materials across steep terrain, constructed a storage tank, and contributed two days of labor per household each week for months.

Today, thanks to Water 1st, water reaches every household connection, freeing families from an estimated 350 hours of water collection each week across the community. Work continues on household sinks, showers, and toilets.

Annabella and her mother first came to FUNDEFAM, our partner in Mexico, looking for some extra help with reading and writing after the pandemic. They ended up finding a community that would become a big part of both their lives.

Annabella went from receiving tutoring to taking English, art, and taekwondo classes to now volunteering with younger children.

Her mother’s path grew alongside hers. She started by volunteering in the kitchen, participated in spiritual healing and reconciliation workshops, and later helped with FUNDEFAM’s social media. This year, she joined the staff as a fundraiser, serving the same community where she was born and raised.

After conflict forced John Kah and his family from their home in northwest Cameroon, returning meant starting over.

Today, his pig has given birth to eight piglets. 🐷

John had once supported his wife, nine children, and extended family through farming. But as violence escalated, getting to his farmland became dangerous. His income collapsed, and in 2019, his family fled to another region. For more than three years, they struggled to meet basic needs. When conditions improved, John and his family returned home with few resources to rebuild what they had lost.

Through our local partner SIRDEP, John joined a savings group and was later selected to receive support to begin raising pigs. He received piglets and feed, along with training in animal care, farm hygiene, business management, and record keeping.

“I am so grateful for this life-changing opportunity that has been given to me to start anew,” John shared. “I love that this support should continue within the community and let others in a similar situation as me be given new hope.”

🌿 In 2025, Ms. Khammee Sisomphong joined the Mulberries silkworm-raising project in Laos.

She planted 2,700 mulberry trees and learned how to care for them and raise silkworms. After just two rounds of silkworm raising, she earned about 3.6 million kip in additional income to help support her family. Ms. Khammee plans to plant even more mulberry trees so she can increase her silk production. 🌱
