Quinn Chapel AME Church

Quinn Chapel AME Church Quinn - Chicago, is the first black church in the city of Chicago. Established in 1844, the church currently sits at the corner of 24th and Wabash.

Quinn - Chicago houses Chicago's first African-American congregation, formed by seven individuals as a nondenominational prayer group that met in the house of a member in 1844. In 1847, the group organized as a congregation of the African Methodist Episcopal Church, and named the church for Bishop William Paul Quinn. We have services every Sunday starting at 10AM.

Women’s History Month continues at Quinn Chapel.
Revive HER 2026: “From Pouring to Power”
Scripture Anchor: Proverbs 1:23

The Spirit has been poured. So now what? Let us walk in authority, move from healing to influence, and transition from brokenness to boldness.

Sisters, join us for brunch on Saturday, March 28 at 11 AM! We will be led by Bishop Shirley Coleman. Come be fed, physically and spiritually! No charge! It is our honor to serve you.

And of course, we celebrate this month with our dynamic preachers. We’ve heard from Rev. Dorothy Jones, Pastor Candace Simpson, Sis. Brittanei Cain. This Sunday we will hear from Rev. C. Sheryll Brown-Venning, and on Palm Sunday we’ll hear from Rev. Dr. Jessica K. Ingram.

If you’ve been looking for a place to tap in, Quinn Chicago would love to welcome you! No better time than now!

By the 1840s, free Blacks flocked to Chicago to steer clear of slavery. Some of them started Quinn Chapel AME, the city’s first Black church, and its physical building served as a beacon for freedom seekers.
