Edgebrook Youth Together's Duluth Service Learning Trip Reflections:

At the beginning of July, six of our high school students had the opportunity to travel to Duluth, Minnesota, for a week with Service Learning Camps. Throughout the week, our theme centered on God's restorative justice. Together we explored what true reconciliation looks like and how God calls us to respond to evil and hatred with love and justice as one interconnected Body of Christ moving together toward solidarity.

Together, our youth put their faith into action through service projects across the Duluth and Superior communities. While our hands were kept busy, we also learned that service is about more than completing projects. We came to understand the realities facing the Duluth and many other communities, including the lasting effects of redlining and decades of disinvestment that continue to create barriers to housing, food security, and opportunity. As we listened to people's stories, we were reminded that loving our neighbors also means seeking to understand the systems that shape their lives and asking how God is calling us to pursue justice alongside compassion.

As we reflect on what we experienced, we're reminded that this mission did not end when we left Duluth. We are all called to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, and to love our neighbors as ourselves. We are called to be partners with God in their work of reconciliation to help heal what sin has broken and to bear witness to the hope of Christ in our communities. Above all, we are reminded that none of us can do this alone. As members of Christ's Body, we are bound together in love, strengthened by one another's gifts, and sent together into the world.

May this week not simply be remembered as something our students experienced, but as an invitation for all of us to continue living as neighbors wherever God has placed us. Compelled by the love of Christ, we are all sent to go and do likewise.

Thanks be to God.

June is Pride month & we are so excited to invite you to our 5th annual community Pride Sunday!!

We will gather for a community celebration of God's unconditional love for all their beloved children! Our theme, Love is Louder, embodies the testimony of Jesus and calls on the Church to be faithful siblings to one another – friend and stranger – for the sake of love. Let’s root ourselves in the spirit of Jesus’s call to love our neighbors as ourselves! Come and be transformed by love!

Join us on June 14th at 10am at Edgebrook Community Church. Following the service, we will also host a Pride Party with a special pop-up from locally and LGBTQIA+ owned, October Cafe!
