"We rightly and best remember Dr. King's soaring oratory that day, how he gave mighty voice to the quiet hopes of millions; how he offered a salvation path for oppressed and oppressors alike. His words belong to the ages, possessing a power and prophecy unmatched in our time." - Barack Obama

Give thanks, then, for the gift of light, for the vision we share, for the revelation we cherish, for the tradition we love, for the faith that overcomes the world, for Jesus Christ himself, the light of the world, the light of the gentiles, the light of the universe, now and for all time. “Light of Light, our time transcending, Light of gladness, never ending, God the Father’s great reflection, Living image of perfection.”
— Father Michael Gilligan

"Prepare the way of the Lord; make his paths straight" is a powerful call that comes from the prophet Isaiah, urging his people to be ready for the day of the Lord. Isaiah understood the importance of preparation in people’s lives. He passionately exhorts the faithful to "straighten in the desert a highway for the Lord." This colorful imagery carries the importance of preparing a welcoming path for God. It is a call to do something for the Lord and to transform our lives.

'“We have here only five loaves of bread and two fish,” they answered. “Bring them here to me,” Jesus said. And he directed the people to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves. Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people.'

The greatest commandment that Jesus left us is centered on the theme of love. In the Gospel of Matthew chapter 22:36-37, when Jesus was asked, “Teacher which is the greatest commandment in the law? He replied, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” Indeed, in saying this Jesus affirmed that to love God is a sublime duty of the human beings toward their creator. This magnificent duty requires them to dedicate every aspect of their life for God; for he created them that they may love, know and serve him.
