Grateful for a wonderful weekend with !

As we prepare to leave this place,
we give thanks for these days together:
for meals shared around tables,
for laughter and stories,
for the courage and joy of the talent show,
for walks through the woods
and along the lake,
for campfires and conversations,
for the moments when we played
and the moments when we were still.
We give thanks for this time together.

We may be leaving this place,
but we do not leave God behind.
God is present in the places we return to:
in our homes and neighborhoods,
in our church and our city,
in our work and our rest,
in the people we know
and the people we have yet to meet.

So go now with gratitude for what has been,
with hope for what is still to come,
and with open hearts for whatever waits ahead.
We go with God.
And wherever we go,
may we make a little more room
for joy, for wonder,
and for one another.
Amen.

We prayed this blessing over our returning students, teachers, and school staff yesterday. This morning I’m praying it for our city as CPS returns today!

God of new beginnings, we give you thanks for children heading back to school, for college students beginning another year, for teachers and school staff preparing to welcome their students, and for all who learn, teach, encourage, and grow.

For children entering new classrooms, meeting new teachers, making new friends, and discovering new things. Give them curiosity, courage, and joy. Keep them safe, and help them know they are loved.

For college students beginning a new chapter, whether far from home or close by, for all the excitement, uncertainty, and possibility ahead,
Give them wisdom, courage, and good companions. Remind them that they are never alone.

For teachers and school staff who prepare, teach, encourage, listen, and care for their students day after day, Give them patience, creativity, strength, and rest. Remind them that their work matters.

God of wisdom, bless these students and teachers. Bless their classrooms, campuses, hallways, libraries, playgrounds, offices, and homes.

Go with them into this new year, O God. And may your wisdom guide them, your love surround them, and your peace hold them, amen.
