All are welcome to join us this MLK Sunday.

We will begin a new study in Exodus which is God’s first liberation story, born in the margins, where God hears the cry of the oppressed and calls a people into freedom. It reminds us that obedience often feels impractical, and that God’s presence isn’t secured by certainty but by courage.

This text calls us to ask hard questions:

Who truly benefits from the way things are?
What are we willing to leave behind?
Do we trust God enough to walk toward unfamiliar freedom?

Just as God made a way through the sea long ago, God continues to summon communities like Epiphany to practice freedom, trust, and holy imagination together.

In a moment when our country feels so fractured with stories of fear, grief, and calls for justice playing out in cities like our own & Minneapolis — the ancient story of Exodus feels relevant and timely.

Last Sunday, shared how John the Baptist came to bring reform and systems change but often with anger, yet Jesus emerged out of his movement choosing to build what He loved. How are you building what you love?

This past Sunday, we explored Isaiah 11’s wild, hopeful vision through four key words

a Stump = when Empire cuts everything down
A Snap = the predatory way of domination
A Shoot = God’s surprising life in dead places
A Spirit = the restorative union between predator and prey that will one day heal and restore.

There are many words for praise in Hebrew and they have different aspects of praise but all translated as Praise in English. Teldah is one of them that is praising God based on his promises. It is praise for what God will do. In this sermon, we discussed the various kinds of psalms (orienting, disorienting, & reorienting). Check out our podcast or new YouTube channel to listen in.

Join us at Borelli’s for MUSIC & ASHES, where we’ll kick off Lent with music that’ll get your heart beating and ashes that’ll get your brain thinking. We’re talking reflection on what it means to be human — spoiler alert: we all have one thing in common. Yep, you guessed it, death. But reflecting on mortality doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. This night is about embracing life, flourishing, and finding the meaning in it all. Come on down to Borelli’s for an evening to start us off on Lent well. All are welcome.

We will be taking a Neighborhood Walk on Saturday October 12th at 10am as a church community to learn about different neighborhoods along with raising money to gift someone in need an Annual CTA Pass. The neighborhoods we will walk through are Boystown, Lincoln Park, Cabrini Green, the Fulton Market, UIC, and Pilsen. Join us at Addison and Halsted at 10am. Take public transportation due to parking or find parking close by. You can walk part of the walk or all of it. The total walk time is 2 hr 30 min, but with stops for food and coffee so we estimate 4 hrs total. We plan to take CTA back home. Please dm us to RSVP or if you have questions.

There’s been a shift in the structure of civil life - it’s noticed by us all. Higher anxiety, isolation and loneliness. Social circles have shrunk. Whose to blame? Is it technology? Political ideologies? It’s hard to say.

The disappearance of placemaking & neighborliness - is something we all grieve. At the same time, many people believe the church is shrinking and no longer any value to society. But we think when done right, the church should be a central beneficial component of city life. This series draws lessons from the early churches as they multiplied across the cities of the ancient world, and we will glean wisdom on what it means as we make places out of our spaces today. Each of our neighborhoods are worth celebrating the gifts and beauty they bring to our city. All 77 of them.
