This month, our hot soup mission carried a mix of emotions as we bid farewell to Pastor Liala from Lakeview, who is retired this past Sunday. Her vibrant energy and leadership have been invaluable in our mission to feed the unhoused in our community. Pastor Liala’s conversational spirit and amazing cooking have inspired us all! We wrapped up our Wednesday mission with a heartfelt circle prayer outside, filled with gratitude for the opportunity to share moments of hope each third Wednesday of the month. Here’s to the incredible impact she leaves behind and the bright future ahead for our mission!

As a Reconciling in Christ Congregation, we welcome all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender expressions based on our belief in a radically inclusive Jesus who loved all people regardless of gender, ethnicity, race, religion, economic, social status, or physical abilities. Saint Luke Ministries strives to be a place “Where all are welcomed, period.”

INTRODUCTION TO THE DAY
Pentecost derives its name from the Jewish festival celebrating the harvest and the giving of the law on Mount Sinai fifty days after Passover. Fifty days after Easter, we celebrate the Holy Spirit as God’s presence within and among us. In Acts the Spirit arrives in rushing wind and flame, bringing God’s presence to all people. Paul reminds us that though we each have different capacities, we are unified in the Spirit that equips us with these gifts. Jesus breathes the Holy Spirit on his disciples, empowering them to forgive sin. We celebrate that we too are given the breath of the Holy Spirit and sent out to proclaim God’s redeeming love to all the world.

Join Us for Our Champagne and Strawberries Reception After Church on Sunday

We hope you can all join us after Sunday's worship service for our annual strawberries and champagne Pentecost reception.

In Christian tradition, Pentecost commemorates the coming of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2).

So, we celebrate this joyful day with God's creation of the first fruits.

The arrival of early summer berries symbolizes the first fruits of the season, while the champagne symbolizes joy, celebration, and abundance.

So come join us. Weather permitting, we will be outside on the lawn. Our lovely host, Kathy Kleisch, would love to greet you.

INTRODUCTION TO THE DAY
Jesus does not abandon his followers. Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus comes to abide with his disciples of every generation. As Pentecost draws near, we are reminded that the risen Christ dwells in us as the Spirit of truth. We receive this Spirit in baptism and pray that in our gathering around the Lord’s table the Spirit will transform us to be the body of the risen Christ in the world.

The joy of Easter continues. Our environment, still filled with flowers, fabric and fragrance, urges us to “keep the feast,” to sustain our joy and wonder at God’s great gift to us in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

During the Fifty Days of the Easter Season, we will stand for all the portions of the Service at which we would normally kneel. We do this as a reminder that because we have knelt in the shadow of the Cross and have been forgiven our sins by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, we can now stand before God as His children.

Become an Acolyte

The Acolytes at Saint Luke play a vital role in the weekly worship service. They participate in the service by helping to prepare the altar, lighting the altar/procession candles, carrying the cross and the Holy Bible, and extinguishing the candles at the end of the service, as well as performing other assigned duties.

Please think about becoming an Acolyte. If you are interested, contact Carol Parnell ([email protected]) or call the church office at 773.472.3383.

INTRODUCTION TO THE DAY
As we continue to celebrate the fifty days of Easter, today’s gospel includes Jesus’ promise that he goes to prepare a place for his followers in his Father’s house. Our baptism commissions us to share Jesus’ mission in the world. As 1 Peter reminds us, we are a holy people, called to proclaim the one who called us out of darkness into light. In words and deeds we bear witness to the risen Christ—our way, our truth, our life.

The joy of Easter continues. Our environment, still filled with flowers, fabric and fragrance, urges us to “keep the feast,” to sustain our joy and wonder at God’s great gift to us in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

INTRODUCTION TO THE DAY
Today is sometimes called “Good Shepherd Sunday.” Jesus is called the “gate” of the sheep in today’s gospel. The risen Christ opens the way to abundant life. He anoints our heads with oil and guides us beside the still waters of our baptism. Each Sunday he spreads a feast before us amid the world’s violence and war. We go forth to be signs of the resurrection and extend God’s tender care to all creation.

The joy of Easter continues. Our environment, still filled with flowers, fabric and fragrance, urges us to “keep the feast,” to sustain our joy and wonder at God’s great gift to us in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
