Congratulations to Saint Andrew School on being named
a 2026 Governor's Blue Ribbon School!

Dear Friend,

As we approach the season of Halloween, we are having our own parish-based spooky celebration this evening, Saturday, October 24 2026 , at our annual Trunk-or-Treating from 5:00pm to 6:30pm in our parish parking lot on Addison Avenue, just east of the gymnasium. Children of all ages are invited to come in their Halloween costumes and receive treats from the many families who have decorated their automotive trunks for this occasion. It is always a great event to attend and is timed perfectly for families to go to the Saturday evening 4:00pm Mass prior to the festivities.

And as we get closer to the season, we are also reminded that at the center of this season, is the Catholic commemoration of All Saints Day, celebrated on November 1st. Pope Leo recently said at a Vatican conference that "the history of the world without saints would be immeasurably poorer and less human."

We look to the saints not only for their constant intercession but for the hope they bring us as models of holiness who show us that everyone is called to be holy. May our lives, like theirs, enrich our world with the joyful wonder of humanity's many possibilities!

Staff Transition In the coming week, we will see the transition of David Heimann from working at Saint Andrew Parish to begin a new role as one of the Regional Director for the Ignatian Spirituality Project . David began at Saint Andrew Parish in 2015 as Pastoral Associate and has completed 11 years of service here working with sacramental preparation, liturgy, and parish administration. David has written a farewell message in this week's bulletin . There will be a celebration to offer leavetaking with David at the already scheduled lunch-after-the-5K-race on Sunday, November 1, 2026 at Chicago Pizza, 3114 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL 60657 between 10:30am and 12:30pm. Please make plans to join us for this farewell.

All Souls Day Mass of Remembrance All Souls Day is the day we remember all our beloved dead. Saint Andrew Parish will hold a Mass of Remembrance on Tuesday, November 2, 2026 at 6:30pm. Parishioners are invited to bring photos of loved ones who have died to place on our altar of remembrance. Their names will be called out and candles will be lit for them during the Mass. If you would like a name and photo included and are not able to attend the Mass, please email [email protected] to have your loved one remembered.

Register Now - 5K Race in Park! Registration is open for the Saint Andrew Parish Running of the Bulldogs 5K and Kids Fun Run event! Come out on Sunday, November 1, 2026 and celebrate Sunrise Mass at Montrose Harbor (right by the Dock Restaurant at Montrose Beach) at 8:15 am. The 5K begins promptly at 9:00 am, followed by the Kids Fun Run at 9:45 am. Proceeds raised will help support our sister Parish in Uganda and Saint Andrew School's health and wellness programs. Please join us following the 5k and Fun Run at Chicago’s Pizza on Lincoln Ave ( 3114 North Lincoln Ave ), for a post race bite to eat.

Mass is celebrated on Sunday, October 4, 2026 from Saint Andrew Parish on the occasion of the installment of Fr. Hank Lyon as pastor.

Dear Friend,

Fr. Hank has been serving at Saint Andrew Parish since July 1, 2025. As is the custom in the Archdiocese of Chicago, a new pastor serves as a parish administrator for the first year and then is installed as pastor. This is accompanied by a formal ritual in which the bishop presides and declares a priest to be the pastor.

This will happen at Saint Andrew tomorrow morning, Sunday, October 4, 2026 at the 11:00am Mass. Bishop Siemianowski will be present to conduct the installation. These ceremonies are always blessed because the friends and family of Fr. Hank will be joining us. You are invited as well to be part of this special celebration! Come and witness the installation, congratulate Fr. Hank on his appointment and join in the reception that will take place afterwards.

A note to anyone who frequently watches our live stream the Mass to be live streamed on Sunday will be at 11:00am rather than the usual 9:00am Mass. This is for this week only.

And as for today... don't forget that the Blessing of Pets is taking place in just a few minutes at 10:00am!

Blessing of Pets To commemorate the memorial of Saint Francis of Assisi, we will hold our annual blessing of pets today, Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 10:00am . Bring your dog, cat, rabbit, hamster, or other beloved pet to the steps of the church to have them blessed. May they always remind us of our responsibility to care for and nurture all of God's creation.

Blessing of Marathon Runners Chicago is always an exciting place when the annual marathon is held. We want to pray for our runners and offer a special blessing to those running this year with a blessing that will take place at the 4:00 pm Mass on Saturday, October 10, 2026 . Runners will be called up at the end of Mass to receive the blessing.

Saint Andrew is holding its annual Pet Blessing tomorrow morning, Saturday, October 3 at 10:00am on the steps of the church. This is always done in near the feast of Saint Francis. God loves all! Including our furry friends!

Dear Friend,

This past week saw a rare event in the Catholic Church where a fellow American, the deceased Archbishop Fulton Sheen, was beatified. A strongly influential evangelist who was well known for his national television broadcast that took place from 1952-57 entitled " Life is Worth Living, " he also was an extraordinary model for justice using his pulpit to promote the dignity of the human person, protect civil rights, deride racism and war. May his example inspire us to pursue holiness. Blessed Fulton Sheen... Pray for us!

And in the spirit of Blessed Fulton Sheen, we are honored that the Knights of Columbus will be holding their annual collection for their Annual Intellectual Disabilities Drive at Masses this weekend. The proceeds of the drive go to serve numerous programs including the Archdiocese's Special Religious Education program and the Special Olympics just to name a few. You'll remember this drive because when the Knights collect money, they exchange with donors a Tootsie Roll. Be sure to bring some extra cash to drop off with the Knights this weekend at Mass or make a donation with them online .
