The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is not a holy day of obligation this year.
But we still remember her today and the faith that at the end of Mary's life, the Blessed Virgin was assumed, body and soul, into heaven where she intercedes for us.

The Chicago Airports Catholic Chaplaincy at the O'Hare Chapel will celebrate a Mass at 11:30 a.m. today to celebrate the Transfiguration of Jesus.
The transfiguration of Jesus Christ was a powerful demonstration of His divine nature and manifestation of His glory, which Jesus possessed prior to coming to earth in the human body. This revelation is referenced in a passage in the Apostle Paul's message to Phillippi.

St. Kateri Tekakwitha Feast Day

First American Indian to be beatified by Pope Paul II on June 22 1980. She became a saint when she was canonized by Pope Benedict XVI at St. Peter’s Basilica on October 21, 2012.

Born in the Mohawk village of Ossernenon, in present-day New York, she and her family contracted smallpox in an epidemic; she was the only one of the family to survive, but had scarring on her face. She was influenced by French Jesuit missionaries and converted to Catholicism at age 19.

After taking a vow of perpetual virginity, she left her village, and moved to the Jesuit mission village of Kahnawake, just south of Montreal. There she died five years later, respected for her piety and good works.

Catholic Mass will be celebrated today at the O'Hare Chapel at 11:30 a.m. ~ Celebrating the Nativity of St. John the Baptist.

St. John the Baptist is seen by Catholics as the last of the Hebrew prophets who foretold the imminent coming of the Messiah. The feast celebrates the Messianic tradition of Israel which Catholic Christians see fulfilled in the Lord Jesus.
