Chicago Ethical Humanist Circle

Chicago Ethical Humanist Circle The Circle was established in 2016 to provide a warm, vibrant, and service-oriented community for Humanists in the greater Chicago area.

We meet at various locations, but principally over Zoom for the time being. Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life. Without supernaturalism, it affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical and personally fulfilling lives that support humanity's greater good. For Ethical Humanists, the ultimate religious questions are not about the existence of a God or an afterlife, but rather, “How can we create meaningfulness in this life?” and “How should we treat each other?”

Zoom added for tonight's Death Café! 5 p CT/6 p ET -

Joe Farkas writes, ”As many of you know, our culture generally doesn't talk about death until it must. That leads to low "death literacy" when it's us or our loved ones. This event is an intentional opportunity to talk, learn, and share a space where it isn't taboo to talk about death and dying. A...

Hi, all! Here are the quotes from this week's American Humanist Association Doses of Humanism:

Today: "I realized that if my thoughts immediately affect my body, I should be careful about what I think. Now if I get angry, I ask myself why I feel that way. If I can find the source of my anger, I can turn that negative energy into something positive." - Yoko Ono

Earlier this week:
Monday: "I believe that if you are a reader, then you are by my own definition free, because no one can imprison your mind." - LeVar Burton

Wednesday: "I wish people were more like animals. Animals don't try to change you...Animals like you just the way you are. They listen to your problems, they comfort you when you're sad, and all they ask in return is a little kindness." - Bill Watterson

Remembering Alan Kimmel; "Thinking Atheist" Seth Andrews or Fish Stark on Sunday AM -

The life of our longtime Ethical friend, Alan Kimmel, ended this week. For many years, he was the hub of the Ethical Humanist Society of Chicago, through his roles on Program Committee, newsletter editor, and, for me, role model. One of the many measures of the man was the loving care his sons Jamie...
