Fr. Jacek, Salesian missionary working in Zambia, explains that while St. John Bosco (Don Bosco) founded the Salesians, he named the congregation after St. Francis de Sales, whose kindness, patience, and openness to others inspired him.

What keeps a missionary going?

According to Fr. Jacek, Salesian missionary from Poland ministering in Zambia, it begins with our relationship with Jesus and remembering our deepest identity: “First of all, I am a child of God.”

Sr. Kusum Antony shares how witnessing a young girl caring for her baby brother stirred something within her and inspired her to dedicate her life to Christ.

Today, she serves the “crucified humanity” of our world—especially vulnerable women and children—as a witness to God’s compassion and love.

One of our mission partners for the 2026 Missionary Cooperation Plan, the Brothers of St. Charles Lwanga, runs a teen mothers' program in Nairobi, Kenya called Watoto Wa Lwanga, which means Children of Lwanga.

For just $2.30 per day, the program provides life-sustaining nutrition for mothers and children while helping young women gain skills to support their families. Through this ministry in the Kibera slum, the Church brings hope and Christ’s love to tsome of the most vulnerable.

On July 27, the Global Mission Office was blessed with the opportunity to meet with Mr. Maria Pushparaj, the Executive Director of the Bishop Iruthayaraj Foundation, and learn more about his missionary work.

Our conversation reflected our shared call to serve as missionary disciples and support the mission of the Universal Church. We are grateful for this grace-filled encounter and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing the Gospel.
