National Vocation Awareness Week is just around the corner, taking place November 1-7 this year. It is a time officially designated by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops to promote and pray for vocations to the priesthood, permanent diaconate, and consecrated life.

The Lake Charles Serra Club is one of hundreds of clubs across the world that make up Serra International, an organization whose specific mission is to promote, encourage and affirm vocations to the ministerial priesthood, permanent diaconate, and consecrated religious life in the Catholic Church.

This past July, Lake Charles’ own John J. Halloran Jr., a retired US Army Colonel, became president of Serra International’s USA Council. In this role, he leads about 8,000 lay Catholics across the country in fulfilling Serra’s vocation-focused work.

Halloran’s top goal as president of Serra’s US Council is to get more American Catholics concerned and passionate about promoting religious vocations to join Serra and amplify its mission. The theme for his two-year term, “Concern, Commitment, and Courage” describes the qualities needed for those who feel called to be a part of the Serra apostolate.

The Serra Club of Lincoln recently welcomed fellow member Dr. Nathaniel Cunningham, professor of Physics, Planetary Science, and Astrophysics at Nebraska Wesleyan University, for a fascinating discussion on the harmony of science and faith.

Dr. Cunningham shared how exploring the wonders of the universe deepens his appreciation for God as Creator. He reminded us that science and faith are not at odds, but can work together to help us better understand the world God has given us.

150 ANNI DI DIRITTO CANONICO: S.E. MONS. REDAELLI INTERVIENE ALLA PONTIFICIA UNIVERSITÀ GREGORIANA.

In occasione del 150° anniversario della Facoltà di Diritto Canonico della Pontificia Università Gregoriana, S.E. Mons. Carlo Roberto Maria Redaelli, Segretario del Dicastero per il Clero, è intervenuto ieri, 21 ottobre, al Congresso Internazionale celebrativo, con una relazione dal titolo «Associazioni di fedeli e assimilazione alla Chiesa particolare».

Mons. Redaelli ha partecipato in qualità di docente della Facoltà, presso la quale da molti anni insegna Prassi amministrativa canonica, approfondendo in particolare la disciplina delle associazioni di fedeli.

Un legame significativo con la Gregoriana, dove ha conseguito la licenza e il dottorato in Diritto Canonico, e un percorso accademico che si intreccia con la sua lunga esperienza pastorale, prima come Vescovo ausiliare di Milano e poi come Arcivescovo di Gorizia, nonché con gli incarichi di Visitatore Apostolico.

Un’occasione di riflessione sul rapporto tra le associazioni di fedeli e le Chiese particolari, nella consapevolezza che il diritto canonico è uno strumento al servizio della comunione, della giustizia e della missione della Chiesa.
