Ever feel like you’re grieving someone or something that’s still technically there? That blurry, confusing headspace is called ambiguous loss. It’s heavy, it’s uncomfortable, and it doesn't come with a neat little bow at the end.
If you are stuck in the grey area right now, be gentle with yourself. Here are 5 ways to navigate it:
1️⃣ Name your experience. Simply labeling it as grief helps take away some of its power.
2️⃣ Allow mixed emotions. You can feel deep sadness and profound love at the exact same time. Hold both without judgment.
3️⃣ Release the need for closure. Healing doesn’t require a perfect ending. It requires taking it one day at a time.
4️⃣ Adjust how you relate. Allow your connection to the person or situation to change as things evolve.
5️⃣ Stay connected. Lean on supportive people who can hold space for the messiness and don't expect you to just "snap out of it."
Letting go of emotional baggage is hard, but walking through the uncomfortable parts is exactly how we build character and find true freedom
