Volunteer Opportunity: Donation and Volunteer Support for New Arrivals from Texas. On Wednesday, August 31, the City of Chicago welcomed nearly 100 migrants bused from Texas to Chicago. Our city greeted them with dignity and respect, and the City government, in collaboration with local, state, federal, and community partners, took action to ensure they had access to shelter, food, and other resources. We anticipate that the state of Texas will continue to bus migrants to Chicago and we remain committed to providing support and resources to our newly arrived neighbors during this transition period. Helping Immigrant Families Move Forward: Last week buses filled with immigrant families began to arrive from Texas. Many more will come. Infants, toddlers, school-aged children, moms and dads with just a plastic bag with a few necessities and nothing more. They left places where poverty and violence meant daily life was dangerous and often deadly. They came with hope and fear. Let's help them take their first steps forward. Cook County Health welcomes these families, provides health screenings, and tries to meet their immediate basic needs. But, we need your help! These families need diapers, baby food, underwear, clothing, shoes, and more. Donate through the CCH Amazon Wishlist.
