As a ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, we believe hunger is ultimately the result of broken relationships with God, with each other, and with the planet. Through ELCA World Hunger, we live out our baptismal call, restoring and reconciling communities at home and abroad. We know hunger is a challenge we can overcome, and with generous, loving hands we work for a world in which
all are fed. Working through Lutheran churches around the world, our congregations in the United States and other partners, ELCA World Hunger is uniquely positioned to reach communities in need. We start by listening to our neighbors and learning how we can partner with them as they work to break the cycle of hunger and poverty. ELCA World Hunger, working with our partners, has already made a huge collective impact on hunger worldwide. But the rate of global progress against hunger is slowing in many of the world's poorest communities. And here in the United States, one in six Americans aren't always sure where their next meal is coming from. Many are forced to choose between paying for food and other basic necessities. And God invites us to participate and lead in this effort. When you support ELCA World Hunger through your gifts of time, talent and finances you join an unparalleled worldwide network of people working for change. Working through Lutheran companion churches and trusted partners, our gifts reach more places, more effectively, than we ever could alone. Our COMMITMENT to fighting hunger goes beyond providing funds to help those in need. We are a publicly engaged church, working for lasting, systemic change. Our commitment to teaching, organizing and mobilizing plays a critical role in supporting and amplifying our hunger work at the grassroots level. HUNGER EDUCATION PROGRAMS help ELCA members better understand the root causes and far-reaching impact of hunger, participate as informed citizens in the public conversation and achieve more sustainable lifestyles. Our ADVOCACY initiatives work with and on behalf of those with little economic or political power, rallying support for just, sound and compassionate social policies in forums ranging from city councils to the United Nations. How your gifts are used: Over 88 cents of each dollar you give to ELCA World Hunger directly supports programmatic work; just 11% is used for hunger program administration and fundraising.
