A lifetime of re-reading Merton has convinced me that the existential note ringing through his body of work is key, not only to making sense of his wide-ranging thought, but to any real understanding of the man himself.

Earlier this year, dozens of human rights defenders, government representatives, and forcibly displaced people gathered to launch the Q***r Forced Displacement Network (QFDN).

The coalition aims to elevate the voices of those most impacted by the ongoing crisis. "This network exists because the people who understand that best are the ones who have lived it, and we intend to be in the room where the decisions get made about us," said co-chair Ryan Figueiredo.

Under Pope Leo XIV, the Vatican is continuing the more welcoming tone toward LGBTQ Catholics introduced during Pope Francis's papacy. While Catholic teaching on marriage remains unchanged, Church leaders have signaled an ongoing commitment to dialogue, listening, and pastoral outreach. Many LGBTQ Catholics and advocates see these efforts as an important step toward fostering greater understanding while maintaining conversations about faith, identity, and inclusion.
