This past Good Friday, our Lighthouse family shared seven powerful reflections on Jesus’ Last 7 Sayings through the voices and lived experiences of our congregation. Let’s take a look back. 🕊️

🎙️ THE SEVENTH SAYING
“Into your hands I commend my spirit.”
Luke 23:46 | Reflection by Dr. Luther Young, Jr.

Whew… trust like that?

Even in uncertainty, Jesus releases himself into God’s care.

Not because the pain disappeared. Not because everything suddenly made sense. But because trust became the posture.

Dr. Luther Young, Jr. reflects on surrender, faith, and what it means to place our weary, hopeful, complicated selves in God’s hands.

Deep breath, beloved. You don’t have to carry everything alone. 🤲🏾

This most recentGood Friday, members of our Lighthouse family brought Jesus’ Last 7 Sayings to life through short sermons, honest reflection, and sacred storytelling. Let’s look back together. ✨

🎙️ THE SIXTH SAYING
“It is finished.”
John 19:30 | Reflection by Iván Camacho

Pause before you call it defeat.

Because sometimes the ending is actually the breakthrough.

Jesus says, “It is finished,” not as surrender, but completion. Purpose fulfilled. Work done. Promise still alive.

Iván reflects on endings, release, and trusting God in the spaces where we can’t yet see resurrection.

Some things need closure so something new can breathe.

What are you finally ready to release? ✨

This last Good Friday at Lighthouse Church of Chicago looked like community, truth, and reflection. Through seven voices from our congregation, we journeyed through Jesus’ Last 7 Sayings. Let’s revisit the moment. 🤎

🎙️ THE FIFTH SAYING
“I am thirsty.”
John 19:28 | Reflection by Jade Bosier

Whew. Even Jesus said, “I need something.”

Read that again.

Need is not weakness. Rest is not laziness. Asking for help is not failure.

Jade reflects on what it means to honor our humanity, tell the truth about our thirst, and stop pretending we’re okay when we’re running on empty.

Friend… what are you thirsty for? Rest? Joy? Peace? Community? Healing?

Maybe holiness starts with honesty. 💧

🎙️ THE FOURTH SAYING
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”
Matthew 27:46 | Reflection by Tahj Warren

For everybody who’s ever whispered, “God… where are You?”

Yeah. This one’s for us.

Jesus reminds us that faith is not pretending everything is okay. Faith sometimes sounds like lament. Questions. Tears. Silence. Survival.

Tahj reflects on the sacredness of honesty and the reminder that even abandonment, grief, and confusion are prayers God can hold.

You are not weak for asking hard questions. And beloved, you are not alone. 🖤

🎙️ THE THIRD SAYING
“Woman, here is your son.”
John 19:26–27 | Reflection by James Thomas

Even at the cross, Jesus was building community.

In the middle of grief, abandonment, and heartbreak, Jesus pauses to make sure people are cared for. Chosen family. Shared responsibility. Love that shows up.

Because sometimes salvation looks like somebody checking on you. Calling you. Feeding you. Sitting beside you when words run out.

James reflects on care, connection, and what it means to hold each other when life feels impossibly heavy.

Who has helped carry you? And who might need you right now? 🤎

🎙️ THE SECOND SAYING
“Today you will be with me in Paradise.”
Luke 23:43 | Reflection by Joshua Crutchfield

Let this be your reminder: your story is not over because life got messy.

Jesus looked at someone the world had counted out and still saw dignity, possibility, and belonging. No gatekeeping. No “get yourself together first.” Just grace.

Joshua reflects on what it means to encounter a Savior who still sees us, even in our hardest moments.

Baby… redemption still has your address. ❤️‍🔥

Tap in, reflect, and let hope meet you where you are.
