It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Faith United Methodist Church, located at 335 West 75th Street, Chicago.
For the past few years, our congregation faced several challenging circumstances, grappling with a decline in membership and financial constraints. We represent the quintessential aging congregation, struggling with limited resources. This January, we confronted a major setback when our boiler malfunctioned, and the repair costs far exceeded our budget. Consequently, we have not been able to hold services in our church for the past few months, resorting to worship service and meetings being held via Zoom.
Additionally, the church structure has been plagued by various unresolved internal and external issues. It became evident that closure was inevitable.
Moving forward, we will partner with three other churches, Wesley United Methodist Church, New Gresham United Methodist Church and Fernwood United Methodist Church making our new home at Wesley United Methodist Church, 201 East 95th Street, Chicago, under the leadership of Rev. Charles Woolery, Sr.
Since we have been unable to worship physically at Faith, we have been worshipping at Wesley for the past few months, however, we are ‘officially’ scheduled to begin worshipping with them on Sunday, July 7, 2024.
In honor of our lifetime of memories made and time spent at Faith, we are planning two (2) events to honor the legacy of Faith United Methodist Church, Chicago in order to provide an opportunity for all of us to fellowship and celebrate old times.
An outdoor picnic celebration will be held at the church on Saturday, June 8, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and a special and final worship service will be held at the church on Sunday, June 9, 2024 which will begin at 10:30 AM
We would like for former members, friends and anyone who has experienced the love at Faith UMC to join us for these two commemorative events.
We are also soliciting contributions or love offerings to assist us with our final expenses.
