Unitarian Universalist History and Heritage Society

Unitarian Universalist History and Heritage Society A community dedicated to the disciplined study of liberal religious history and our Unitarian and Universalist heritage.

The mission of the Society is to strengthen a community dedicated to the disciplined study of liberal religious history, and to advance education, research, and dissemination of our Unitarian and Universalist heritage within and beyond the Unitarian Universalist Association. We seek to increase awareness of our traditions in all their diverse experiences and expressions of which region, race, clas

s, gender, and generation are a part. To this end we promote the collection and preservation of historical materials, support research by academic and independent scholars, including those in Unitarian Universalist theological schools, disseminate the fruits of that scholarship through various media including the Society’s journal, sponsor events for a broad public, and engage Unitarian Universalist congregations in historical research and celebration of our heritage. The book, "This Day in Unitarian Universalist History," by Frank Schulman is one of the many great resources that this page uses to come up with our "this day in uu history" posts. Schulman's book is a wonderful resource and can be purchased online: http://www.uuabookstore.org/cw_contributorinfo.aspx?ContribID=3604&Name=Frank+Schulman

We are delighted to announce that the 2022 Conrad Wright Lecture will be given by Dr. Melissa Borja at the Unitarian Universalist General Assembly. The Unitarian Universalist Study Network (UUSN) - formerly the UU History and Heritage Society - arranges and sponsors the lecture each year. Dr. Borja will speak on "Immigration, Religious Diversity, and the Limits of Pluralism." Description: "With recent immigration, America is more multireligious than ever, and Americans (especially UUs) have embraced the framework of religious pluralism. However, while respecting religious difference is a laudable goal, the idea that all people can be understood through the category of religion has produced both possibilities and perils." For those attending UU General Assembly, this will be an "on-demand" program. We do hope you watch this excellent presentation when it becomes available.
