This.
Christians. I’ve checked everywhere and I cannot find the following anywhere in the Bible:
Cast out the poor from you for their woes are not your responsibility. Ship them someplace else if you need to and be sure they don’t get anything the easy way. The poor are to be blamed for the problems of the world.
Nope.
Worry not if you have more opportunities than others for this just means you are my favorites and there is no need to change the world so things are more equal. Just enjoy and try and get more stuff!
Not there.
There is a land to be called America, rich white men shall run it and do whatever it takes to be sure they keep power. I appoint them and you will know they are mine because they’ll tell you. (Pay no mind if they jail the immigrant and kill those who try and help those in need, those words in the Gospel have other meanings for them they’ll explain that too.)
No. Where.
Raise your eyes to the economy. Let it guide your heart and all your decisions and especially how you vote. If a man has money you know he’s blessed by me. Money is good and the root of all holiness.
Couldn’t find it.
Use my name to tell others they missed out on being fearfully and wonderfully made and have no part in my kingdom for Jesus is on the side of only a chosen few. Remind the world heaven has a strict immigration policy so they better fall in line.
Not in any translation.
Protect all things that you feel are yours by holding them tight. There are not enough of my gifts to go around.
Again, not there.
Seeing these things are not in the Bible and noticing that most of the Bible says the exact opposite of these things means we may need to adjust accordingly.
I’m afraid people are really misunderstanding Jesus when we Christians act like we are following Him but really we are following our own selves or even worse leaders that act not one bit like Jesus in any way.
Sooooo…remember, as we said in youth group growing up, you might be the only Bible someone reads.
What are we doing that shows others that we believe God is love and Jesus wants us to love each other?
Not saying, showing. The bible verses in your social media bio don’t count.
I’m talking about how you treat others with what you support in your leadership and communities and with your actions.
I’m talking about the words Jesus said while he was here on Earth, not the cherry picked stuff you’ve all been throwing around from the Old Testament.
I’m talking about the whole “and the greatest of these is love” thing.
How are you showing that love to EVERYONE?
Although the words of those professing to love their neighbors while also saying brutality is justified against them makes me drop this reminder that your words matter too.
I’m pretty sure Jesus would flip quite a few of our tables should he come back today.
Amen.
