It is commonly said that youth are the future of the Church. At Urban Youth Mission, we believe that youth are the Church today—and we want to give them the tools to live into that call. During our six-week cohort, youth will meet weekly to converse with non-profit leaders and discuss how we respond to injustice as people of faith, empowering them to work for justice in their own communities.

Whether you’re seeking to develop your leadership skills, meet other youth from around the country, learn more about the non-profit sector, or gain a better understanding of your call, we hope you’ll join us. Contact Allie for more info at [email protected].

“The murder of George Floyd is just the latest act of violence against an unarmed black person. His name is just the latest name to add to an always growing list. And our black siblings in Christ are weary and angry. I am weary and angry. This is not who God has created us to be towards each other. Black lives do matter—they matter to God and they sure need to matter more to us as an institution, a part of the body of Christ. They need to matter more to us as a society, all of us, children of God.

“‘I am dark and lovely,’ our scripture claims. And we claim it, too.”

While service as we know it has come to a halt, the injustices of our society require our attention now more than ever. Although we’re disappointed we won’t be able to host visiting groups this summer, we’re committed to continuing the conversation of how we’re called to work for justice in an unjust world.

That’s why we’re offering a three-day virtual experience exploring the ways COVID-19 has impacted our most vulnerable neighbors, and how we can respond. Throughout the week, youth will engage in interactive simulations, hear keynotes from our partners, and gain tools to be advocates for themselves and their neighbors.
