Sorry to inform you of the passing of longtime Wednesday League member Ed Hayes. Ed played , managed, and umpired in the Wednesday League , winning a championship as head coach in 1989. He also played on the Sunday team as well. He was a Holy Name board member for many years, serving as an advisor in recent years. As an advisor it was his idea that every Wednesday League team plays on Super Saturday. Attached are several photos of Ed with friends throughout the years at St. Christina Holy Name Softball. The 22nd Annual Mike McComb, Jr. Garage Cup is going to be played on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at Munroe Park, 2617 W. 105th St., Chicago, IL 60655 at 7:00 pm. St. Christina Wednesday Champs, Team Brian Healy, will be taking on St. John Fisher Thursday Champs, Team Pete Raines for the Cup. The Cup is named in honor of the late Mike McComb, Jr., who was the first member to play in both softball leagues and who lost a courageous battle to cancer in 2020. If you can, please show up to honor the legacy of our good friend Mike, and to support both of these great neighborhood leagues.

After the first total rainout of Super Saturday since 2000, we were able to get it in this past Saturday. Unfortunately, Team Zaber was unable to field a team due to other commitments of much of his team as a result of the rainout. It was hot and muggy, but a good time was had by all. The rainout affected a number of teams. The Final Four featured Brothers' Healy facing off against Brothers' Sellers with Team John Healy taking on Team Brandon Sellers and Team Brian Healy going up against Team Eric Sellers. Both Healy brothers prevailed and met each other in the Championship. Team Brian Healy ended up taking out older brother John 12 - 6 to take home the Championship. Congratulations to Super Saturday MVP Brian Healy of the championship team. Congratulations to Austin Cangelosi who was our Home Run Derby winner. We also had another strong season of father's/son's in the league which is a great representation of the tight family bond of this neighborhood, parish and league. Thanks to Pat Roberto's Calabria Imports for providing the fantastic food and to Dan Mugavero and his band for providing great music for us all day. And, as always, a huge thank you to Jack Ullrich for providing us with the best softball facility in the world. Thanks to everyone for a great season.

Super Saturday

We are going to give this another shot, but there have been some changes due to the fact that many people make their family plans after Super Saturday. With that said, Team Zaber is unable to field a team for the rescheduled Super Saturday, so we will be moving forward with a 12 Team Bracket for the day. I am working on using the available Team Zaber players as subs on other teams that are short for the same reasons. The new schedule/matchups are shown below. We will still have our entertainment for the day, including Pat Roberto and the Calabria Imports Food Truck and Dan Mugavero and his band for musical entertainment. We will also need to get some things done in between the games, especially the team pictures (make sure that you take a team picture and send it to me) and the Father/Son picture. The count will be 0 - 0 throughout Super Saturday. We will be having our Annual Home Run Derby after the Championship. After each of the games, I'm asking that the game ball be brought to the garage to be used in the Home Run Derby. I'll have a box in the garage for those. As of now, the weather appears to be cooperating, but I will be watching the forecasts and radar closely and will be keeping in close contact with the managers.
