The ministry of our church began in May of 1946 when Reverend William Brawner organized the New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. Charter members included his wife Lillian, Zetta Hughes, Reverend Osborne, Deacon Clarence Cobb, Harriet Carter, Julia Irving, and Ruby Cobb. The first place of worship was at the Brawner home located at 2527 West Warren Avenue in Chicago. Services were held at memb
ers' homes until arrangements were made with Wallace Funeral Home at 2010 West Lake Street to hold services in their chapel. The Lord blessed the church to grow and move to 240 North Western Avenue in 1949. Our current pastor Calvin L. Bryant, Sr. and his wife Mary Bryant joined the church in 1955, where he was soon ordained a minister by Rev. Brawner in 1956. The congregation marched into its building on 1306 South Kedvale on May 29, 1959, and was then known as Kedvale New Mount ZIon Baptist Church. As the civil rights movement in the 60's moved on, the church continued to grow in number and influence in the community. In 1974, after the transition of our founder, Pastor Brawner, Reverend Calvin L. was ordained as Pastor. Soon after, God began to multiply the flock of Kedvale New Mount Zion Baptist Church. In the late 70's and early 80's the church expanded it's community-based ministry. Vacation Bible School reached out into the community, and evangelism teams started going out to share the Gospel in the community. Many of the ministries experienced significant growth during this time, and new ministries emerged in order to support the church body as well as spread the Good News to the area. After Calvin Bryant's passing in May 2014, we began a prayerful selection process for a new pastor. Rev. Michael W. Bryant was selected as the third pastor of Kedvale New Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church on August 1, 2014.
