"Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me." Fr. Fernando quoted this passage from today’s Gospel at start of his homily.

Other Mass highlights: first Children’s Liturgy of the Word in the new school year, remembering Fr. Grassi, and Fr. Fernando’s appeal for the Cardinal Camara Home for Priests in Rio de Janeiro.

It is somehow fitting that we are preparing for a new phase of life in Fr Grassi Park as Fr Grassi enters eternal life.

Construction is full steam ahead as the forms are being constructed for the concrete to be poured next week. One of the school kids asked if we were putting in a pool!

The oval in the center will be turf, and will be used for play during recess, as well as for parish events.

Our partners Gil Aceves from ProStudio, Dante Domenella and Laura Schmidt from Domenella Architects, and Kevin Manning from the office of Planning and Construction from the Archdiocese meet with us weekly to make sure the project efficiently moves along.

All the donor bricks have been inventoried, and will be installed in the prayer areas.

We are mourning the loss of our beloved Pastor Emeritus Fr. Dominic J. Grassi.

His wake will be on Friday, September 4, and his funeral will be on Saturday, September 5 at St. Josaphat Church, 2311 N. Southport at Belden.

Once times have been confirmed, we will share them.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

It is with great sadness that we share that our Pastor Emeritus, Fr. Dominic J. Grassi, passed away last night.

Fr. Grassi served his beloved St. Josaphat Parish faithfully and many of us have wonderful stories about how Fr. Grassi welcomed us and helped us grow in our faith. We are grateful for his many years of priestly ministry and his friendship.

Please join us in praying for Fr. Grassi and for all those who loved him.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace. Amen.

We will share information regarding funeral arrangements as soon as it is available.
