This is indeed very sad news. My heart grieves for the families affected and for the ministries that will now have to pick up the pieces.

At the same time, we are not in a position to judge or pass judgment. Those who believe they are clean should pursue greater cleanliness; those who are holy, greater holiness. Anyone can fall into precarious and hurtful actions when they neglect the foundational aspects of their being. Too often, ministers resist accountability to partners, mentors, and governing boards. We need to be held accountable and to foster teams of mentors we can run to in seasons of temptation, burnout, and defeat. Ignoring past trauma, grief, and brokenness is never the answer.

No one is exempt from this. Throughout my eight years as superintendent, I have consistently encouraged leaders to pursue monthly counseling, regular spiritual direction, and a trusted team of mentors from whom they can seek wisdom, counsel, and, when necessary, loving rebuke.

I am praying for all the pain this has caused within the body of Christ. May God grant us wisdom.
