HB3486, the bill to recognize Moorish-American Awareness Month in Illinois, passed the Illinois House 111–0 with bipartisan support.

After arriving in the Senate, Senator Willie Preston became the bill’s chief sponsor. Since then, the bill has not received a hearing.

The people deserve answers.

NEW LEGISLATION FILED — A DISTINCT PROPOSAL
House Bill 5382 has been newly filed in the Illinois General Assembly. This is a separate bill, introduced for a different and specific purpose, establishing an administrative pathway for religious and cultural name and record correction for eligible members of the Moorish Science Temple of America.
This proposal:
✔ Addresses religious freedom concerns
✔ Preserves Moorish heritage
✔ Supports human rights
✔ Simplifies administrative processes
HB5382 is not an update or amendment to prior legislation. It is a standalone measure now moving through the legislative process.
