“The Gospel has meant several things to me...”
When asked how the power of the Gospel has transformed him, Moody alumnus and Professor of Pastoral Studies, Dr. Kerwin Rodriguez (‘09), shared:
“Knowing that God is my heavenly Father brings me deep comfort and reassurance. The Gospel means that Jesus is near to me as a friend because of his sacrifice. He looks upon me with love and kindness, which gives me strength to walk through life with confidence.
I came to faith in Christ at ten years old, completely captivated by the story of Jesus. While attending a small Christian school, our class was studying the Gospel of Matthew, reading about Jesus’ death and burial. As a naïve 10-year-old, I raised my hand and asked, ‘Why can’t we just go and see where He’s buried?’ My teacher paused, took a deep breath, and then said, ‘Because He was raised from the dead.’
At that moment, by the Spirit of God, everything clicked. The truth of the Gospel became real to me, and from that day on, I placed my faith in the Lord.
As a young man and now as an adult, I have seen the Lord’s hand in my life—caring for me, comforting me, and walking with me. My hope isn’t temporary but eternal. No matter what happens in this life, I can rest knowing that God is with me and with all who trust in Him.”
