The Olympics may have its roots in ancient paganism but the modern Olympics are rooted in Christianity. The Olympic Creed comes from a sermon by Episcopalian Bishop Ethelbert Talbot:
"The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well."
The Olympic motto is the hendriatris "Citius, Altius, Fortius, (faster, higher, stronger) was given by the Dominican Friar Henri Didon to the father of the modern olympic the Jesuit trained Pierre de Coubertin. The hendriatis was originally the moto for St. Albert the Great Catholic School in Paris.
