As Congress continues working on appropriations legislation, we must tell our representatives that federal spending should reflect particular care for those most in need. The Episcopal Church calls for favoring federal budget priorities that work toward alleviating poverty as a reflection of our faith values. Matthew 6:21 says, “for where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Episcopalians are committed to honoring and protecting the dignity of every human being, especially the most vulnerable in society, as we recite regularly in our baptismal covenant.

Our public funds must support essential domestic services like healthcare, housing, and environmental protection—and support critical international humanitarian aid in health, peacebuilding, nutrition, and disaster preparedness.

Write Congress now and urge them to pass appropriations legislation that reflects our care for the most vulnerable, both domestically and abroad.

Jesus promised, “I will not leave you orphaned.”
What the disciples first knew in the presence of Jesus, they came to know more deeply through the gift of the Spirit: Christ not only beside them, but abiding within them. In the mystery of God’s love, his going was not absence but nearness, not loss but deeper life. And so we, too, are held by the Spirit of truth — guided, comforted, and drawn into the living heart of Christ.

St. John’s Norwood is honored to again take part in —which it will observe this year on Sunday, May 31.

We wear orange to commemorate the lives lost, stand with survivors, and proclaim our commitment to peace, dignity, and the sacred worth of every human being.

And at 10:00 am, our Gun Violence Prevention (GVP) Ministry will host a special Forum featuring survivor Rosemary Lytle and Maryland State Senator Sara Love (District 16)

As people of faith, we believe we are called to be instruments of God’s peace and voices for justice in our community and beyond.

Please wear orange and join us on May 31!

In his May 3 sermon, the Rev. Sari Ateek summarizes the first seven chapters of Acts, in which we see the Holy Spirit transform fearful disciples into brave witnesses for Christ. God gave them courage to speak, serve, and stand firm—and that same Spirit still strengthens us today.

(As our Bishop, Mariann Edgar Budde says, through our faith, we can LEARN to BE BRAVE.)

There is the Old Testament.
There is the New Testament.
And then there is the Testament of Nature: creation itself, bearing witness to the Creator.

Speaking at our April 26 "Earth Day" Forum, Father Pete Nunnally of Water & Wilderness Church encouraged us to commune with God by experiencing the holiness woven through the natural world.
