Christ is risen! Happy Easter from St. Ignatius!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated the Holy Triduum and Easter Sunday with us this past weekend, and to all of the many, many volunteers who helped make these liturgies possible. Congratulations as well to all who were baptized at the Vigil, both at St. Ignatius and elsewhere, and to all who will receive their Sacraments this Easter season. (Also pictured is our Blessing of Easter Food on Saturday morning.)

Let us carry the light of Christ with us in our lives, becoming Resurrection People whose hope is in our risen Lord—He is risen indeed, alleluia!

Join us this Friday for a conversation with as he discusses his recent book “Work in Progress”! Fr. Martin’s spiritual memoir shares humorous snapshots from his life, reflecting on the value of work and showing us something about what it means to be an adult. Copies of the book will be available to purchase (cash or check is best), and Fr. Martin will sign books after.

The St. Ignatius LGBTQ+ group will gather for an informal social with Fr. Martin at 6pm before the book talk in the Friary Room. All are welcome!

Blessed Palm Sunday! As we begin Holy Week, joining Jesus as he enters Jerusalem, let us pray that we too may recognize Christ when he comes to us.

PROCESSION OF THE PALMS
The whole city was shaken and asked, “who is this?” A very large crowd before and behind cried out with “Hosanna to the Son of David,” as they spread their cloaks and strewed leaves from the palm trees, preparing the way for the king to enter Jerusalem. The city’s people were dazed and they cried out: “Who can this be, this great one?

Now we cry out too! Who can this be?

We wave palms in welcome, but we ask, Jesus of Nazareth, who are you to us? Our God who walks alongside us? A king, crowned with thorns? A light that shows our way to the truth?

Holy Week begins this weekend with Jesus’ triumphal entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday (regular Mass schedule). We gather together on Wednesday for a service of Lenten reconciliation, before we begin our celebration of the Paschal Triduum (7pm each night). On Good Friday we journey with Christ on the road to his Passion (Noon), and on Holy Saturday we participate in the Polish tradition “Blessing of Easter Food” (11am). Finally, we rejoice in the Lord’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday (no 5pm Mass)!

We look forward to celebrating this holy season together with our parish community.

Thank you to everyone who came out for our second Centennial Series event, One Body: the Architecture of St. Ignatius, with Eric Haydel! Eric walked us through our church, drawing our attention to artistic and architectural features we may have never noticed before (swipe to the end to see an Easter egg of St. Peter holding our church building in the Christ the King window above the choir loft!). Keep an eye out for a recording of this lecture soon.

As we enter into the season of Lent, March is a time of prayer at St. Ignatius. There are many ways for parishioners to pray together this Lent, but here are some of the highlights:

Our Centennial Series events will bring people together to explore the space we worship in (with Eric Haydel) and the experience of danced prayer (with Fr. Bob and the Boston Liturgical Dance Ensemble).
The Ignatian Way of the Cross offers a variation on a traditional Stations of the Cross rooted in the spirituality of St. Ignatius.

Keep an eye out for details about our Feast of Oscar Romero service and Bilingual Via Crucis!

On Sunday, parishioner and Boston College professor James O’Toole gave a talk on the history of St. Ignatius Parish, the first event in our Centennial Series. Professor O’Toole introduced us to two key moments in St. Ignatius history: our founding in 1926, and the construction of our church building in 1949.

Join us as Pilgrims of Hope in the Jubilee Year! Next weekend, St. Ignatius celebrates the Season of Creation and the World Day of Migrants and Refugees with TWO events to inspire hope in the world around us.

On October 3, the Green Team invites you on a Pilgrim of Hope for Creation, a chance to thank God for the gift of creation and to consider how we can be better stewards of the world we have been given. You can register for free at the link in our bio.

On October 5, the Immigration Committee will show us new ways to accompany our immigrant brothers and sisters and support their human dignity.
