The evangelism cycle in our churches should include plenty of opportunities for personal growth in Christ through individual and group Bible study. We could all benefit from more time in His Word. Check out this link for some tips on getting the most out of your study time.

Because the cycle of evangelism also includes continuing to grow ourselves in Christ, watch for posts that include ideas for your personal study. These may also translate into ideas you can use as a group study. The image below is one that has been circulating on Facebook as we prepare for the holiday season. Take time to consider what you will do this Christmas season to deepen your faith as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior.

Here are two more ideas for reaching students in your community schools.

Donate gently used and new band instruments to your local school so that a student who can not afford to purchase these instruments are still able to participate in their school's band program. Or, your church can create a fund earmarked for this purpose. The school can contact you when a student in need is ready to purchase.

Create a clothes closet of formal wear suitable for prom for those who can't afford to purchase new. Ask for past alumni and others to donate their past dresses to this endeavor. Have a fund to help the young men rent their tux. Work with a hair stylist and makeup person, maybe even someone in your church, to provide low cost or no cost services to help the young ladies look and feel their best. This is such an important evening to these young ladies and gentlemen.

Both of these missions would have such an impact on young people's lives. Consider doing something as an individual or with your church to reach our youth. Be blessed while being a blessing to others.

A lot of our students are involved in sports; community or school. You and your church can do outreach to these athletes. Consider what St. Paul's UMC Church is doing in Cambridge, Maryland. They are feeding the local school team pancakes every Friday morning. "Feeding the Team" happens every week during football season.

There are so many ideas popping into my head right now of things that we can do for our local athletes. Weekly meals are an awesome place to start. Raising funds for sports equipment and uniforms would be great if your community school or its athletes need new things. Providing water and sports drinks for game day would be another way to help out.

Another thought I had that costs absolutely nothing except time is for a church to adopt a team and be there at every game or, at least, every home game to cheer them on. You could do posters to further identify your group so they recognize your group every time. Really get into it in a positive ways. Wear team colors and cheer loudly. No boos for the other team, please. Can you imagine seeing the same faces together on the stands at game after game cheering you on? Just our presence may inspire them to find out more about our church and, more importantly, about Jesus. Wow!

You might also want to find out if the school has a Fellowship of Christian Athletes group. You may be able to do things through that group or start one if there isn't one. The goal is to help our young people to realize the love of God, the saving grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Whatever God is speaking into your heart and mind right now, pray and do according to His leading. God has an awesome plan for you in ministry which may just be one of the ideas that I have shared today. Be blessed as you bless others!

If you've been following this page for any length of time, you know that outreach to schools and students is one that I mention time and time again. I am so thankful to know churches and individuals personally that take part in ministries to schools. I will be posting this and another post about two churches near where I live who are ministering to the schools in their community.

The Sudlersville UMC Charge (St. Paul's, Ingleside, and Calvary-Asbury) in Maryland was busy this summer collecting school supplies for ALL the students at Sudlersville Elementary School. They were able to deliver 360 bags. They didn't just reach out to the needy students, but shared God's love in a practical way with all of the students in this school. Way to go Sudlerville UMC Charge.

There are so many ways that we can minister to our schools. Churches and individuals can bless our schools with supplies; individual student supplies or general classroom supplies. You can bless the teachers with food delivery or gift cards. And, don't forget the administration. Most of them are there year round making sure that things are working for the present year and planning for the next. Pray and consider how you and your church can bless the school near you.

I've got one more post on the way today. Be looking for that. It will also shed a light on another way to minister to the students in our community. Be blessed as you bless others.

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land. - 2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

This verse has been circulating quite a bit over the last two years. Most recently, I met a gentleman from Colorado who shared that verse as we had conversation over the state of our country. I think most Christians can agree, regardless of political affiliation, that this nation needs healing.

Tab, the gentleman from Colorado, along with the members of his church are praying for their local, state, and national government. They are planting stakes with prayer as a way of reclaiming this nation for Christ. They are praying for the healing of our nation.

I would like to take this moment to encourage you to join Tab in a time of prayer for your town, county, state, and national government this Saturday, October 2, at 11 AM. He is currently on a prayer walk from Lewes, Delaware, the first town in the first state, to our nation's capital. He will be praying in our nation's capital as members of his church and other churches in Colorado are praying at various locations throughout the state.

Pray this week asking God where you should pray. You might feel led to pray near the main intersection of the town you live in. Perhaps, you will be led to your county seat, state capital, or Washington DC. Wherever you feel led to pray, please join myself and Tab as we pray for our nation this Saturday at 11 AM.

This weekend was busy for us with an outdoor Christian concert, two Spirit-filled worship services, and a family reunion picnic. The reunion reminded me how important it is to cultivate relationships within our churches. We grow as individuals as we do life with other Christians.

Make a point as a church or as a group of Christians to get together for a picnic where people can mingle and get to know each other better. Encourage long-standing members to circulate and introduce new people to others. Offer opportunities for games and other activities, like a nature hike, to help people get to know different people throughout your event.

Other options abound for growing relationships. If the weather isn't suitable for a picnic, do a covered dish dinner. Go on a shopping trip. Enjoy an appropriate movie and get dessert afterwards. The movie will help jump start conversation. If none of these ideas spark your interest, take some time to brainstorm some of your own.

Getting together for worship, study, and service is important. Building Christian relationships is also important. It will give us people in our lives to grow us in Christ. We will also find people we can count on to pray for us, to be there in n our hour of need, and to hold us accountable to God's Word.

September is here once again. As children get back to school, our churches are re-starting certain ministries back up after a summer recess. I, too, am resuming my weekly evangelism posts. We all need a break from time to time. Make sure to schedule time to enjoy God’s creation, to seek His face in the great outdoors.

Seek God’s face, not His hands is the theme that runs throughout Tommy Tenney’s book, The God Chasers. Recently, someone shared books they were getting rid of at church. One of those was The God Chasers. I brought the book and a study guide for the book home to consider along with some others. I picked it up and have been slowly, but surely devouring it. This is a book that I would highly recommend to Jesus’ disciples.

Tommy Tenney shares how churches need to be seeking God’s face. Starting from a place of repenting for our sins, we need to desire to love on God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength. As we do, Christ will move in us, through us, and around us. We will be blessed as we bless others by His presence within us. We will be drawn closer to Christ as we draw others to Christ.

I recommend this book for your personal reading or to share as a group. I am certain the study guide is just as good, but I haven’t had a chance to do anything more than glance at the first chapter’s guide. What I saw looked good. I think you will be blessed by both resources.

I know we are living in times that continue to be uncertain, but we must not give up sharing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ with the world as we are led by God. So, pray and ask for wisdom and direction from God. Sometimes, we may be called to think outside the box on how to minister to all from the youngest to the oldest.

Typically, fall is the time of the year where a lot of churches restart their ministries. A new school year means a new Sunday School year. The youth group starts up again after a busy summer apart. Your church may be trying to figure out how to kick start these ministries and others in the midst of trying to keep everyone safe from illness.

In most areas of the United States, we will still be experiencing mild weather for a few more weeks, maybe several. For those in areas of high concern, consider offering outdoor concerts where everyone can spread out in a large area of grass with their own lawn chairs or blankets. Encourage people to bring their own food and beverage, but have some free bottled water and prepackaged food available just in case.

Whatever you do in ministry in the months to come, do so prayerfully with Holy Spirit wisdom. Share the love of Christ however you can and whenever you can. Do what you can in-person. Use technology when its all you got. Continue to use online platforms in conjunction with in-person to reach those who are unable to or prefer not to come out in public.

If you or your church has access to an open area that's great for kite flying, why not invite the community to a Kite Fly Day! Purchase some inexpensive kites to have on hand as giveaways to those who don't have one. Make sure to have plenty of free food and drink available, too.

Evangelism and discipleship are long words that tend to scare the average church goer. However, if we are truly Christ followers, not just pew warmers, we are evangelists and disciple makers. As an evangelist, we share our faith with the hope of bringing others to Christ. As a disciple maker, we continue the process of moving them from new believer to disciple maker themselves.

It's all part of the Great Commission, aka the cycle of evangelism. Going out into the world and bringing them into the church. Moving them towards belief and baptism. Teaching them all that God commands us. Sending them out as disciples to continue the cycle.

As part of the Body of Christ, we each have a part to play in the cycle of evangelism. We can be involved in outreach, welcome, teaching, and/or discipling in our churches. God may even call upon us to personally disciple or mentor an individual or individuals. I have included a link to a list of 20 Discipleship Ideas to help to grow you and your disciple(s).

The last week of April was a time of tragic loss for at least four communities in our area of Delmarva. Five lives gone. Four communities touched by grief. I was reminded by a friend of mine that we need to remember to "grieve well." To find true healing from loss, we need to allow ourselves time to grieve the loss.

Besides the loss of loved ones, we might need to grieve the loss of a pet, a beloved home, a relationship, a job, etc. Allow yourself time to grieve your losses. You will find healing. Healing allows you to be the best you in Christ.
