“I will make you light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.” (Is 49:6)
Today, we face difficult times where many may feel lost, scared, tired, overwhelmed, and possibly uncertain of how to make sense of all that is happening in our world today.
We may find ourselves torn against others in our own country, communities, and even in our own families. Sometimes, these divisions can be very violent and ugly as we push for what we believe is right and just.
Yet, it is by our actions that we come to define ourselves, what we stand for, what we believe. The question we need to ask ourselves, “Does our choice of who we choose to be, align with God?”
During Lent, we take time to examine our lives and to reconnect with the core of who we are, grounded in our faith and our belief in God.
It is also a time to take note that we were created in the image and likeness of God. From the moment we were conceived, God gave us our name; he called us to serve him from the moment we were in our mother’s womb, to be light to others.
This Lent, we have an opportunity to connect with the light of God’s presence in us. A light that brings peace, love, and joy, especially in this time that many are experiencing fear and darkness.
The presence of God in us brings us together to hold sacred the dignity and humanity of every person. Without exception! If we fail to do this, we fail to fulfill our calling to be light, to live out the presence of God within and among us.
If we find ourselves to have fallen away from God—possibly feeling we have betrayed or denied Jesus by failing to see the presence of God in others, especially the least among us—it is time to turn back to Him. Embrace God’s presence within, and begin aligning yourself with His love, His kindness, His compassion, and His mercy to everyone.
This Holy Tuesday, ask yourself, “How is God calling me to be closer to Him? How do my actions serve as light to others?” Remember, you were created to be light to the nations. What are you waiting for?
