First Presbyterian Church of Chester, NY

First Presbyterian Church of Chester, NY We are a small but mighty congregation, faithfully serving the community of Chester (and beyond) since 1798.

Come get to know us better on Sunday with worship at 11am. We strive to faithfully serve our God and our community, loving God with all our heart, mind, soul and strength, and loving our neighbor as we love ourselves. We hold weekly Bible studies, bi-weekly book studies, Sunday school, Lenten and Advent lunch bag devotionals, along with our weekly worship services and special services throughout t

he year. We are community oriented with housing and running the community food pantry, starting a community garden, housing numerous support groups, the local Kiwanis club, and have recently formed a new partnership with VOCA (Village of Chester Arts Association) to support the arts in our community (and celebrate creativity!).

This Sunday, we step into Holy Week with the story that begins it all—Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a humble donkey, crowds waving branches, hope rising in the air.

At First Presbyterian Church of Chester, we’ll gather at 11 am to remember that moment and to wonder what it means for us today:
What does it look like to welcome Christ with open hands and honest hearts?
Where might humility and courage be calling us now?

Whether you’ve been with us all season or you’re returning after some time away, you are welcome. Come join us as we pray, sing, and walk together into this sacred week.

As we continue The Luke Project, we’re stepping into a challenging and beautiful passage: Luke 11:29–41.
Pastor Jonathan will be preaching a message titled “The Love We Don’t Want.”

Sometimes Jesus offers a love that doesn’t feel easy - love that tells the truth, love that calls us deeper, love that refuses to leave us stuck. It’s the kind of love we might resist… and the kind of love that ultimately sets us free.

If you’ve been looking for a place to breathe, to ask honest questions, or to reconnect with God and community, we’d love to welcome you this Sunday at 11:00 a.m.

And as we move toward Holy Week, stay tuned for details about Palm Sunday, Tenebrae, Good Friday, and our Easter celebrations. A beautiful season is ahead.

There’s a place for you here. 🌟

This week we begin Part 4 of The Luke Project: The Road to Jerusalem. In Luke’s Gospel, Jesus turns his face toward Jerusalem fully aware of what awaits him and still chooses the path of love.
Our message this week is “Choosing the Road of Love.”
It’s the road Jesus walked, and it’s the road we’re invited to choose every day as we seek healing, wholeness, and the kind of love that sometimes costs us something.
If you’ve been looking for a place to breathe, reconnect, or simply hear good news, we’d love to welcome you this Sunday at 11 a.m. There’s a seat for you, whether you come with questions, gratitude, weariness, or hope.
Come walk the road with us.
