History:

The Mount Sillar Baptist Church was organized in 1904 the meeting was held in a brush harbor until the church was built. Reverend Jones built the first church in 1912. The building was remodeled and in later years, a new build was erected on this spot under the leadership of Reverend E.C. The following Pastors served Mt. Sillar Baptist Church in years past: Rev. P.C. Crawford, Rev. D.T.

Perry, who started the building fund, Rev. E.C. Scott, Rev. James Allen, Rev. Nathaniel Smith, Rev. Lloyd Johnson, Rev. Curly, Rev. Smiley, Rev. Howard of Mt. Olive in Shorter, Alabama (intermittent pastors), Reverend Howard introduced us to our current Pastor, Rev., Derrick Heard who has pastured since November 2000. Past Deacons of Mt. Sillar Baptist Church are as follows: Deacon Frank Allen, Deacon James Burton, Deacon James Edwards, Deacon Cleo Hawkins, Deacon William Jake Swanson, Deacon Joseph Burton, Deacon Will Allen. Currently Deacon Robert Burton is the Chairperson and Deacon Herman Taylor works faithfully with our church. Practical Application

1. Check on others:
Paul sent Timothy to check on the young church because he cared deeply about their spiritual well-being. Take the initiative to check in on friends or family going through tough seasons.

2. Refuse to isolate: Do not try to walk through hardship alone. Surround yourself with a trusted, godly community that can anchor you when life gets challenging.

3. Intercede for others: Paul prayed night and day for the Thessalonians to have their spiritual gaps filled. Turn your worry for others into active, daily prayer. Amen!

Lastly, anchor your hope! Keep your eyes focused on the return of Christ as the ultimate source of stability and comfort.

In the exordium of chapter 1, Paul praises the Thessalonians because the Word of God rang out from them. They did not just keep faith to themselves. It echoed to every place. In chapter 2, Paul reminds them that they accepted his
message not as human words, but as the true Word of God. When God's Word enters us, it changes how we live, love, and speak to the world around us.

Allowing God’s word to change your heart is the first step of growth.

Are you devoted to serving well?

Being devoted to good work means intentionally making kindness, service, and practical help a regular habit in daily life. Rooted strongly in biblical texts like Titus 3:8 and Titus 3:14, it calls people to focus on actions that help others, meet urgent needs, and stay fruitful rather than idle.

Paul encourages Titus to establish the Blueprint of service/healthy ministry in Crete.
This passage is calling us to operate in healthy ministry.
These concepts are rooted in divine healing, physical care, and holistic wholeness modeled by Christ and the early church. Meeting the needs of people where they are momentarily is the goal. The Most High does the saving through the Works of the Cross of His Son, Yeshua. Amen!

Practical Applications:

1. Cultivating a Productive Life:
Treat service as a learned skill that requires intentional practice, planning, and consistent devotion rather than random coincidence.
Pray for guidance as you serve.

Thank You for renewed mercies and unconditional love on this beautiful day.
I come to you today asking for a more discerning spirit. Give me a heart of wisdom and a clear mind. Help me to see past the noise of this world and hear your gentle voice. When I face choices, show me the right path. Take away any confusion, fear, or doubt in my heart. Open my eyes to see the truth and give me the strength to follow your will above all else.

In 2 Timothy 3 & 4
the Apostle Paul gives his final charge to Timothy to stand firm on God's word, endure hard times, and finish the faith well.

Paul also warns that the last day will bring deep moral decay, selfishness, and false faith, while urging believers to stand firm through the Holy Scriptures, which are given by God and fully guide us to live right. Hallelujah👏🏾

Constant awareness: Keeping God in your thoughts all day long.

What to do to revive your spiritual zeal?

In this passage, the Apostle Paul is writing his final letter from a cold, dark Roman prison. He is facing the very real threat of death, yet his focus is not on his own circumstances; it is on encouraging his young protégé, Timothy. Paul reminds Timothy of the sincere, genuine faith that was passed down to him by his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice.

When life gets hard, your deep love for God can weaken, and you must choose on purpose to wake it back up. Amen!👏🏾

Father God,
I come before You today, humbling myself under Your mighty hand, trusting in Your timing in all circumstances.
Lord, thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit and for the reminder that I do not need to operate out of fear.

We live in a world full of cultural noise, endless opinions, and "godless myths" that easily distract us from what truly matters. In chapter 4, the Apostle Paul gives young Timothy and us a bracing but beautiful challenge: “Train yourself to be godly”. Just as an athlete trains their body, you and I are called to intentionally build spiritual stamina. While coasting leads to spiritual weakness, intentional training anchors us in prayer, gratitude, and sound teaching.

The real question we must ask ourselves:
Are we slipping into spiritual decay or just settling for spiritual complacency?

Practical Applications:

1. Filter the Noise: Just as an athlete monitors their physical diet, you must guard your mental and cultural intake. Take regular breaks from social media or debates on political issues.

2. Sweat in the Word:
Replace "godless myths" with scripture. Start by reading and meditating on verses that ground you.

3. Prioritize Prayer: Set aside consistent, dedicated blocks of time daily to talk with the Most High, specifically focusing on gratitude to center your heart.

Lastly, You cannot train for godliness in isolation. Connect with other believers through local assembly fellowships, small groups, or Bible studies to stay accountable and grow together.
