In these trying times, our military service members and their families are facing mounting and complex mental health challenges as they navigate deployment, return, reintegration, and the invisible wounds of war. As the Church and as counseling ministries, we are called to be ready to receive them with wisdom, compassion, and skill—body, mind, and spirit. Now is the time to study, train, and strengthen our ministries so we can offer trauma-informed, culturally aware, Christ-centered care at unprecedented levels of need. Let’s commit ourselves—pastors, lay counselors, and clinicians alike—to prepare diligently today for what is coming over the horizon, so that when they reach for help, we are already in place, equipped and ready to serve. “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)
