Gracious God, on this Memorial Day weekend,
we remember and give thanks
for those who have given their lives
in the service of our country.
When the need was greatest,
they stepped forward and did their duty
to defend the freedoms that we enjoy,
and to win the same for others. . . .

Holy One, help us to remember that freedom is not free.
There are times when its cost is, indeed, dear.
Never let us forget those who paid so terrible a price
to ensure that freedom would be our legacy. (- J. Veltri, S.J., )

Thank you to everyone who continues to support Shelter By-the-Sea and the work being done at St. Paul’s By-the-Sea.

We are grateful that conversations around homelessness, compassion, and community care are happening in Ocean City. At the heart of this ministry are real people: neighbors who need safety, dignity, rest, and hope.

Our mission remains simple: to care for those who have nowhere else to go and to live out Christ’s call to love our neighbors.

We’ve included an updated list of pantry, kitchen, shelter, and operational needs in the graphic below. Links to specific donation items are included in the comments for anyone who would like to help directly.

If you would prefer to support this ministry financially, donations can also be made through our Tithely giving page: https://campaigns.tithely.com/spbts/bringourpeopleinside

Please continue to keep our guests, volunteers, staff, town leaders, and community in your prayers.

Donations can also be mailed to:

A prayer for Mother's Day:
Creator God, whose Word birthed all that has been, is now, and ever will be, we give you thanks for the divine gift of motherhood in all its diverse forms.
Pour out your abundant blessing and grace upon the mothers among us today; for our own mothers, those living and those who have been called to your nearer presence; for the mothers who loved us and for those who fell short of loving us fully; for all who hope to be mothers and for those whose hope has been frustrated;
for all mothers who have lost children; for mothers separated from their children for any reason; for all women and men who have mothered others in any way – those who have been our substitute mothers and we who have done so for those in need; and for the earth that bore us and provides us with our sustenance.
Sustaining God, encourage & inspire them when they grow weary, soothe them when feeling overwhelmed, and grant them courage, strength, wisdom, and moments of tender joy all their days, for mothering is a life-long vocation.
All this we ask in the name of your Incarnate Son, born of Mary. Amen. (adapted from a prayer by Rev. Leslie Nipps from the Episcopal prayer book Women's Uncommon Prayers (Morehouse Publishing, 2000), p. 364; revised and expanded by the Rev. Catherine Ann Ballinger, 2024.)
