"The Road Back Home"

A man had two sons. One son did what he was told, the other son didn't. The other son left and lived a life of grandeur, eventually losing everything he was given. But, when he came home to work his father' fields, his father immediately celebrated the return of his prodigal son instead!

We often find ourselves in the same situation. Whether we're parents, siblings, or friends, we all have been, or know of those who have been, the one to walk away from family, friends, or faith in Christ. The thing is, God never leaves us. We leave him. But He welcomes us back with open arms when we turn back towards Him! ❤️

📖[ Luke 15:11-32 ]📖

1️⃣. The Road of Rebellion🔥

The path of rebellion doesn't start off in some far-off place or outside idea. Rebellion first starts in the heart. Before actions can be taken, and rejection can occur, rebellion begins, and is a matter of, the heart. Sin, in any capacity, is a direct rebellion to the King's authority.💔

Like the prodigal son, we often rebel and want OUR own way, not God's way. We think we know better than God! However, rebellion is a matter of selfish pride because we want what WE BELIEVE we "deserve". The thing is, God will give us what we want, and he allows us to walk away. Love is a choice, and God doesn't make us love him. We can choose to rebel and do our own thing, because even the path to hell is paved with good intentions. God won't bless our will if it's not also HIS WILL. 🚫

📖[ Luke 15:12-13 / Proverbs 14:12 ]📖

2️⃣ The Far Country Will Cost You Something💲

Sin is an illusion. Sin looks good at first. No harm, no foul. Not all sin has immediate consequences. But, eventually, sin will cost us everything. Sin will take us farther down the hole than we ever wanted to go and will cost us more than we could ever imagine. Small sins right now may not cause a problem but eventually we become a slave to those sins that were first "just a small choice". This is how sin creates chains and bondages in our lives.⛓️

Prodigal son left. He took his inheritance from his father and went to live in the illusion of the sinful world. The father knew that his son would suffer, but the father couldn't, and didn't, choose to chase after him. He allowed his son to choose his own way. God does the same for us. God won't make rebellion comfortable to us, but he will allow us to go through the consequences of rebellion. However, God can, AND WILL, use those consequences of our Rebellion to create something better, something new, and teach us how to live again!🌅

📖[ Luke 15:13 - 17 / Galatians 6:7 ]📖

3️⃣. There Is Always A Road Back Home🛣

No matter how far we walk away, no matter what we've committed, God will always provide a way home. He always provides a way out of sin, out of habits, hang-ups, hurts, and out of what isn't meant for us. The thing is, WE have to choose to take that road. Jesus knocks, God waits, and it's up to us to turn away from the world and return home to the Father! 🤲🏻

When The Prodigal Son returned home, he wasn't "worthy" to come home. He left. He abandoned. He squandered. He wasted everything. But when the father saw the son on the road back home, the father ran and embraced his son. The father didn't even care to hear about the apology, he celebrated the restoration of his long lost son. It's the same way when we return to God! Heaven rejoices because the prodigals came home! 👨‍👧‍👦

📖[ Luke 15:17, 20-24 ]📖

"Leave it in the Water" 🪦🌊

God's grace is an unmerited gift. We can't earn it. He gave it to us to free us from the sins of our nature to be made righteous as Jesus.

Baptism is symbolic. It's a public declaration that says, "I have decided to follow Jesus. The life I once lived is no more." 🙅🏼‍♂️

Through baptism we experience a death, burial, and resurrection.
- Stepping into the water is death.☠️
- Being submerged into the water is burial.⚰️
- Raising out of the water is resurrection. 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♀️

The water doesn't save us, forgive us, or makes us a new creation.
Only Jesus Does!

📖[Romans 6:1-6]

1️⃣. The Old You Goes Down ⬇️

Baptism is the death of the life we once lived. The people, places, and things of who we used to be are dead and buried. It's a funeral of sin into life, old identity dies as a new identity is reborn. Curses, chains, habits, hang-ups, and hurts are lifted as the sinner is restored, a new story is written.

📖[Romans 6:4 / 2 Corinthians 5:17]

2️⃣. Jesus Gives New Beginning 🌟

Coming out of the water makes us reborn from death. Coming out is being raised into a new life, new purpose, with a new beginning. We are lifted from Death To Life.

Jesus did not just die and rise from the grave. He arose in power. He arose in VICTORY! He raised to life to demonstrate that we, too, will raise to life like Him! Baptism raises us in the SAME VICTORY, the SAME GLORY, and the SAME RESURRECTION POWER that raised Jesus from the dead. We become new like Christ!

📖[Romans 6:4]

3️⃣. Don't Go Back to What God Buried 🚫

Leave it in the water! Going into the water leaves behind the old things that we buried. The devil knows how to get to us with what he first used to hold us captive. He knows how humans fall. DON'T GO BACK!

Just because we're delivered from the old it doesn't mean the enemy doesn't, and won't, tempt us with things of the old life. God can get us out of egypt, but He can't get the Egypt out of us. We have a mission and a new purpose when we are baptized. There's no need to go back to what God buried, because we are raised to Life as a new creation!

📖Matthew 28:19-20
"[19] Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, [20] and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

📖Acts 2:38
"[38] Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

📖1 Peter 3:2
"[21] and this water symbolizes baptism that now saves you also—not the removal of dirt from the body but the pledge of a clear conscience toward God. It saves you by the resurrection of Jesus Christ,"
