Amid startlingly high rates of hunger and poverty in Chelsea, local community agencies recognized the need to form a unified front on issues affecting the city's most vulnerable residents. In 1998, these agencies banded together to formally establish the Chelsea Hunger Network to advocate on hunger issues at the grassroots level. e Salvation Army, and Roca, which operate free meal programs and/or community food pantries. Other member agencies include Centro Latino, CAPIC, CRW Elder Services, MGH Foods fro Families, MGH WIC, Chelsea Neighborhood Developers, and The Chelsea Senior Center - all of which provide a range of services directed toward individuals and families in need.
