LIBERTY LIVING

TRAINING WHEELS (Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 5:5-9; Psalm 78:4-7)

Give Huffy the door prize for bicycle training wheels. If you’ve had a little darlin’ learning to ride a bicycle, the extra two wheels on the back saved you some band-aids. The training wheels gave her the basics needed to burn rubber on the street.

Biblical writers recorded a general principle about a child’s preparation to pedal off into adulthood. The parental investment in that “off on her own” young lady is the training wheels to get her started on a God-honoring life.

How can you develop the spiritual foundation and Christlike morality that make her the kind of person the Lord can use? It starts when you pass along early and often Godly life truths when the child is most attentive to you—at an early age. How can you go about that?

1) Prioritize loving God and becoming the person He wants you to be.
2) Practice those priorities in front of your child.
3) Tell your child how those priorities have made a difference for you.
4) Invite her to relate what she has gleaned from her Bible class at church.

If you have a kid in your family in the training wheel stage of life, how are you doing at getting her ready to ride through life only on two wheels?

You can do some things for your child that Huffy can’t.
