You may have heard about the winter weather we’ve got coming our way this weekend. Forecasters are relatively confident that a significant winter weather event will occur—whether that will be snow or a wintry mix of ice and rain is yet to be determined.

Birmingham, and particularly Chelsea, is a hilly place, and driving conditions have the potential to become dangerous. As a result, I’ve made the decision to move our Annual Meeting to the following Sunday, February 1, and I will keep up to date on developing weather conditions on Saturday. If it looks like the roads will be a problem, I’ll consult with the Senior and Junior Wardens and make a decision whether to cancel service for Sunday, January 25. Please keep an eye on your email and our page on Saturday.

If conditions do get bad, please also take care of yourselves—make sure you’ve got food, water, medications, and a means to stay warm. Please reach out if you need anything or have any questions or concerns.

On this Epiphany, as we with the Magi venture out into the world in search of Jesus, may we see Christ’s light in the world around us, in the face of every human person—especially our enemies—and may that light guide us to reconciliation, salvation, love, and peace! Bless you on this bright and holy night!

The Bishop is coming, the Bishop is coming!! We will have our annual Bishop's visit, this year from our Assistant Bishop, Brian Prior, on December 14, the Third Sunday of Advent, and that means confirmations and receptions (and baptisms)!

Preparation for those rites includes a time of learning and reflection on the faith as we have received it in the Episcopal Church. To that end, for the next four Sundays, in place of our usual lectionary reflection, we will have a period of preparation in Confirmation Class every Sunday morning from 8:30-9:30 am in the parish hall.

If you've already been baptized or confirmed or received, this class is still for you--the knowledge you bring will be helpful to everyone present, and refreshers are always a good thing. Together we will learn and discuss Church history, scripture, the Creeds... everything you need to make a public commitment to Christ here at St. Catherine's!

If you are interested in getting confirmed or received or baptized when Bishop Prior is with us, please let Father Dillon know as soon as possible, either by email or text or in person, so we can get you prepared and get the necessary paperwork and certificates filled out.
